Sonos Play:3 Wireless Speaker Review

Good sound for the size. Doesn’t distort at high volumes. Easy to set up and operate. Lets you access your iTunes library and tons of streaming content in one place.

Sonos Controller software for Mac didn’t support Lion at press time, though Sonos was working on a fix. No aux-in or USB port for charging an iOS device. Expensive.

At 300 bucks, the Play:3 is the most affordable path into Sonos’ multi-room systems. If AirPlay isn’t quite enough, Sonos’ pricey entry-level wireless speaker might be music to your ears.

Sonos Play:3

Sonos has made quite a name for itself in the wireless audio game over the years, turning out some cleverly-designed components that magically transform your existing audio system and speakers into a whole-home, streaming audio network. Unfortunately,...

Huge, room-filling sound, small footprint ; Highly enjoyable sound with all kinds of music ; Multi-room setup is remarkably simple ; Sonos controller app a joy to use ; Solid, inert construction

Mids can sound a little distorted ; No standard speaker inputs, i.e. only compatible with other Sonos gear

Whether as a single unit or a stereo pair, in one room or many, no other network audio solution that we know of makes it this easy and this much fun to enjoy your favorite music. We can’t think of a higher compliment than that.

Sonos Play:3

Strong audio performance. Can be paired with a second unit to make a stereo pair. Switches to mono output automatically when in vertical orientation.

No aux input for direct listening from a mobile device. Needs the Sonos Bridge to function wirelessly (not included). Sonos Desktop Controller does not automatically update your music library.

The Sonos Play:3 sounds fantastic and is finally affordable, but the omission of an aux input or the ability to dock or stream directly from a phone or iPod make the system less versatile than other wireless audio options.

Sonos Play:3 review

Sounds great, able to stream stacks of music, small, available in black or white

Need internet connection, need a smartphone for the controller, will most likely need to buy the Sonos Bridge to get the most out of it

The Sonos Play:3 sounds great, is easy to setup, and will happily sit in you kitchen or on your bedside table replacing that digital radio that doesn't do anything apart from play what's being broadcast now. With the option to kit out your mansion with...

Sonos Play:3

Impressively musical, disperses sound well, flexible over positioning, free control apps

Requires a wired connection or an optional extra, dedicated remote is expensive

Best multi-room streaming system, Awards 2013. Sonos's Play:3 is also a cracking little performer

Sonos Play:3 Review

The Sonos Play:3 is a network speaker that can accept audio inputs from a wide range of sources. The setup is modular, meaning you can buy one Play:3 at first and add to your Sonos range later via a ‘bridge' unit that links additional speakers....

The Sonos Play:3 is a really impressive network music player that is ideal for music fans with smaller homes to fill with sound. Though the need for a separate Bridge unit bumps up the price a smidgen, for £300 you have an incredibly flexible music...

Sonos Play:3 review

Although there's no doubt that Sonos is the best multi-room audio system you can buy, the downside has always been price. It's something that the company has tried to address over the years, and now with the Play:3 you can get Sonos for less than £300.

Excellent sound quality in a small package, the Play:3 is a good introduction to Sonos and a good way to expand an existing system
