The Spendor SA1 Loudspeaker

Maybe I just like swimming against the tide… Maybe I just want to be different… Or maybe, just maybe I resent being told what to think… Anyway, more years ago than I care to remember, when I first started out in hi-fi retail, the mini-monitor debate...

Likewise, change the system and you'll hear the results immediately. As impressive as the Spendors sound on the end of the Electrocompaniet ECI-5, there's no mistaking the leap in quality as soon as you hook up the Gryphon Diablo, the change in...

Spendor SA1 loudspeaker review

Spendor's SA1 is back and it's a classy new miniature

Surprising dynamic expression ; Sounds impressively smooth with low coloration ; Excellent stereo imaging ; Above all it's a fine musical communicator

The down side of any small loudspeaker with decent bass extension is that sensitivity will be low and ultimate loudness capability will be modest

Although relatively expensive, this tiny speaker with its partnering stand might be the best sub-miniature around. Subtle blending of a complex cocktail of carefully chosen ingredients deliver a remarkable dynamic performance

Spendor SA1 - £1,295

The BBC-inspired, relaunched SA1 isn't cheap, but its loveable presentation won over our blind listening panel

Beautiful, even tonality with nicely judged top end

Limited dynamic expression and loudness capability

A costly, but very high-quality sub-miniature with notably superior sound quality

Spendor SA1 review

Pint-sized standmounter, packing an ostentatious punch

A superbly balanced sonic presentation ; great insight ; impressive scale and composure for size

It’s a lot of money for such a small speaker

These Spendor SA1s are ideal for those who want a top-class standmount, but have limited space
