As stated in the ad, it amplifies TV audio, but in my opinion is not selective viz a viz dialogue as purported to do. I didn't really expect it to mute background sounds and enhance speech, but for the price it is adequate as a speaker.

These were made for use by the hard of hearing on TV sets, but I use the two I bought for room filling sound on portable radios. The literature with the speakers says they make the voices sound clearer and easier to understand when there are loud sound...

Got this for my dad to have next to him while watching TV. Just plug in the, included, wire to the "line out" on the back of your TV, connect the power supply and turn it on. The unit has a, built-in, amplifier with volume control and sounds great!

I have tested these units with seniors with all sorts of hearing issue and they all love the warmer sound, good price and convenient usability of the unit. There are TV's without RCA audio out jacks that may require some jury rigging to use this unit...
