Field Test: Yamaha HS50M Monitor and HS10W Subwoofer

When Yamaha discontinued production of its venerable NS-10M studio monitor due to unavailable parts, mix engineers worldwide were left with a dilemma: How do you replace what has arguably been the most reliable proxy for consumer-playback systems for...

I also briefly worked with the HS80M, big brother to the HS50M reviewed here. The HS80M produced significantly more bass and low mids compared to the HS50M, but both models had essentially the same bright top end. The HS50M produced better imaging,...

very accurate

These aren't fun booming bass listening speakers, they are accurate professional reference monitors. So if you want fun bass boosted and high frequency boosted speakers look elsewhere. These are for engineers.

They aren't 8" woofers. The low to high mids don't crack the way you need them to for snare drum mixing. You definitely need to decide if you do need 8" speakers

great flat sound

Overall, These speakers sound PHENOMENAL for the price. You almost forget you're listening to $400 monitors when mixing with these. These things look like toys but sound like $1000 near-fields. I a...

User review Yamaha [HS Series] HS50M by moosers on Audiofanzine

I've been using the Yamaha HS50s for about two or three years. I wanted to see how they compared to the classic NS-10Ms, as these are modeled after them. All in all, I prefer the NS-10Ms, but since...
