Yamaha YAS-101

Yamaha's first budget sound bar delivers solid sound quality for TV and movies. The Yamaha YAS-101 's built-in subwoofer will appeal to minimalists who don't want a separate sub, plus it has an innovative feature that passes through remote signals if...

If you like tons of bass or really high volume, the YAS-101 isn't for you. It's also light on features, lacking HDMI inputs, analog audio inputs, and any kind of wireless audio streaming.

Yamaha's YAS-101 is a great budget sound bar, with an excellent design and a helpful feature for dealing with remote signals, although it's light on connectivity.

Yamaha YAS-101

It's been kind of fun to watch the sound bar progress over the last seven years or so. First there were passive sound bars that simply put a couple of speakers into a wide, short enclosure that looked tidy sitting below a flat panel TV. Eventually,...

Substantial low bass for a small enclosure ; Clean, controlled high frequencies ; Univolume keeps loud ads at bay ; One digital optical cable included

No analog audio input ; Surround mode steals from fidelity ; Mounting screws not included

If Yamaha’s aim was to create a full sounding, self-contained, slim sound bar solution at an accessible price, we’d say they pretty much nailed it on the head with the YAS-101.

Yamaha YAS-101 Soundbar Review

Since the advent of Plasma and LCD, big screen TVs can fit just about any where you stick it. However, it's an entirely different story when it comes to home theater systems. They generally require more [...]

Good bass response considering its size ; Well built with a black glossy piano finish that gives it a high perceived value ; Easy to setup and use

No detectable surround sound ; Subwoofer must be cranked to 100% to hear it

Does this sleek Yamaha sound bar really mimic 7.1 channels of simulated surround sound? How does such a small sound bar provide such big sound? Check out our sound bar reviews.

The sleek and beautifully styled Yamaha YAS-101 sound bar produces good, clean sound

The Yamaha YAS-101 lacks HDMI and RCA inputs. You don't have the option to stream music wirelessly to the sound bar

Despite providing clear and distinct dialogue, the lack of inputs and weak bass prevent the YAS-101 from ranking higher among its competition.

"Yamaha Quality!"

After using the speakers for a few weeks I think I am able to submit a review. The speaker is nice, sleek and shiny black. Thicker than I expected but with the built in sub-woofer, I figured it had to be. It sat neatly in front of my 52" Sharp LCD TV....

+ Sound was great, nice and clear

- Bass was not deep and pronounced but there was bass

"For money, this is better than most"

pair with sub and you won't regret listening to most music material.

pleasant sounding

could use subwoofer but this model is better than many many other small speakers here

"Not bad and better than stock speakers."

You may want to consider pairing this with a subwoofer and then you will be good to go.

The sound bar is able to learn remote control codes so you don't have to have a separate remote. The pass through is a great feature, and this has a mounting setup so it can easily be put on a wall. There are lots of sound modes too.

For the money there are better sounding systems out there. The speakers are very loud, but without a separate sub the whole system sounds almost empty.

If you\'re considering ANY Soundbar, realize they\'re a compromise. You\'ll get significantly better sound than what any HDTV will provide but be realistic and don\'t expect it to sound like good separate speakers. If you\'re considering a very...
