Apple iPad mini review: One for the road

Wait, did hell just freeze over? Maybe a couple of degrees cooler? Rumors of a mini version of the iPad had been laughed at, dodged and denied - not necessarily in that order and often all at once. But here it is - the iPad mini is finally a reality....

Compact body: 200 x 134.7 x 7.2 mm ; 7.9" LED-backlit IPS LCD touchscreen, 768 x 1024 pixels; scratch-resistant, oleophobic coating ; Dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n connectivity, carrier-dependent hotspot support ; Optional 2G/3G GSM, CDMA, LTE...

More expensive than 7" Android tablets, only $70 cheaper than iPad 2 ; No Retina display, 162ppi only ; Same chipset as iPad 2, now two generations old ; iTunes still required for most of the content uploads ; Reflective screen struggles outdoors ; No...

OK, then. Before we have our say on the iPad mini, we'll let the numbers talk. Three million tablets sold over the opening weekend easily beats the record set in March by the then new iPad. It's a combined figure of course for the two new slates - big...

iPad mini review

The iPad mini has been rumored for nearly as long as the original iPad has existed, but it wasn't clear early on how many of those rumors were based on

Beautiful, thin and light design ; Stellar battery life ; Bright, clear display ; Sturdy construction

Too wide for some ; Pricier than many 7-inch alternatives

The iPad mini isn't just an Apple tablet made to a budget. This isn't just a shrunken-down iPad. This is, in many ways, Apple's best tablet yet

Apple iPad mini (Wi-Fi)

The iPad mini lets you run the best library of apps in the biz on a tablet you'll actually want to carry, but it's not the best small-screen tablet you can buy.

Beautifully designed.Very good cameras. Largest library of tablet apps.

Expensive. Wide. Slippery.

iPad mini review

The iPad mini has arrived — and so has our review. Just last week, Apple introduced the world to the newest member of its wildly successful tablet line, an adorable, diminutive slate with a...

Fantastic design and build quality ; Software selection second to none ; Great battery life

Screen is lower resolution than the competition ; Can sometimes be a little awkward to hold ; Expensive

iPad Mini review

Editors' note (June 19, 2015): Apple has discontinued the 2012 iPad Mini reviewed here as of June 2015. You should instead consider the 2013 iPad Mini 2 or 2014 iPad Mini 3 models.

The iPad Mini's ultrathin and light design is far more intimate and booklike than the larger iPad, and its cameras, storage capacities, optional LTE antenna, and general functionality offer a full iPad experience. The screen's dimensions elegantly...

The iPad Mini costs too much, especially considering the lower resolution of its 7.9-inch non-Retina Display. The A5 processor isn't as robust as the one in the fourth-gen iPad and iPhone 5. Typing on the smaller screen is not quite as comfy.

If you want the full, polished Apple tablet experience in a smaller package, the iPad Mini is worth the premium price. Otherwise, good alternatives are available for less money.

iPad mini Review

Over the last two months, Apple has updated almost all of its core product lines, with the addition of a 13” model to the Retina MacBook Pro line and new silicon for the iPad and Mac mini to go with ground up redesigns for the iPhone, iMac, iPod touch,...

If you're not as enthralled by the mini's form factor however, you're really left with software as the main differentiator between the iPad mini and other 7 - 9" tablets. Once again, this brings us back to the question: how much do you value iOS? I...

Review Apple iPad Mini Tablet

The new number one? Apple has now introduced a smaller tablet featuring a 7.9-inch IPS screen called iPad Mini besides its iPad 4. The older Apple A5 dual-core SoC and a lower screen resolution reduce costs. But will this also have an impact on...

Workmanship, feel, choice of materials and stability, Light and compact, State-of-the-art wireless technologies, Extensive range of accessories, Excellent touchscreen & pleasant keyboard, The IPS screen's good rates, Outdoor use made possible by high...

iPad mini Review

In this iPad mini review, we will go over the pro and cons of the iPad mini to see if that would work for you.

Although Apple’s co-founder Steve Jobs once said “10-inch screen size is the minimum size required to create great tablet apps”, Apple has recently seen the light and identified the sub-10” tablet market as viable, compelling and worth fighting for. To...

iPad mini Review: Apple aims for the everyman

It's an iPad, but smaller. Boiling down the iPad mini to its core premise may not tell you everything you need to know about the 7.9-inch tablet, but it does set the scene: Apple's legendary build quality, iOS and the hundreds of thousands of tablet...

As the pre-launch rumors proliferated, some questioned whether Apple really needed a product that slotted in-between the 4-inch iPhone and iPod touch, and the 9.7-inch iPad. Others questioned what sort of price bands Apple would target: whether the...
