Review Asus VivoTab Smart ME400C Tablet

The compatible one. No matter whether iOS, Android or Windows RT,

Bright, viewing angle stable and high-contrast screen; Good touch features with reliable feedback; Good battery life; Far-reaching Windows compatibility

Fiddly micro interfaces; Hardware button with moderate feedback; Partly outdated performance for Windows 8

The competition is multifaceted and partly setup very differently. Here a few examples that might be worth taking a look: iPad 4, Google Nexus 10, Asus VivoTab RT, Microsoft Surface RT. Asus' VivoTab Smart ME400CL sports a 4G/LTE module.

That many tablet tasks are implemented smoothly and it doesn't need to shy away from comparison with the established competition in many aspects. There is a backlog in the MS Store, where the current offer - putting it kindly - is very small

Asus VivoTab Smart Review

Just a few short years ago if you described a Windows computer with a 10-inch display running on an Intel Atom processor, you were most likely describing a netbook. Nowadays, that description is even more rare, and when it does crop up – as in the case...

Light, comfortable to hold, solid build ; Less expensive than the competition ; Runs full Windows 8 and older programs ; Long battery life

No full USB input port ; Underpowered Atom processor ; Cameras unimpressive

You'll be able to do more with this than with an iPad – even taking the scarcity of Windows 8-specific apps into account – but you won’t be able to do it more speedily and without some frustrations with the interface.

Asus VivoTab Smart (64GB, black)

Asus, known for its creative designs and outre hardware (such as the recent Taichi dual-screen laptop), has its own unique take on the Atom-powered Windows 8 tablet. The VivoTab Smart ME400 -- if you can decypher Asus' naming conventions, more power to...

The Asus VivoTab Smart ME400 is as inexpensive as Atom Windows 8 tablets get, and the add-on keyboard/touch-pad combo is excellent.

The keyboard doesn't actually attach, which can be a hassle, and the folding magnetic cover takes practice to set up properly.

In a sea of hard-to-distinguish Atom-powered Windows 8 tablets, the Asus VivoTab Smart ME400 stands out a bit thanks to clever accessories.

Asus VivoTab Smart ME400C

The Asus VivoTab Smart ME400C is aimed at the budget shopper who wants a full Windows 8 slate tablet, but it won't replace your laptop.

Relatively cheap. Multiple colors available. Windows 8. Decent battery life

Cheap plastic construction. Wimpy speakers. Limited port selection requires adapters for usability. Accessories, like cover and keyboard, not yet available

If there's one area that Windows tablets have failed, it's in giving the budget-conscious shopper something worth buying. Even lower-powered tablets and laptop/tablet hybrids are priced like a full-featured ultrabook, while failing to deliver...

Pleasing design ; Lots of built-in storage for the price ; Good camera ; Optional keyboard is easy to pack, comfortable to type on
