Binatone Homesurf 705

Sometimes having a bad tablet is worse than having no tablet at all. Enter the Binatone Homesurf 705…

It costs under £100 ; Great video codec support

Abysmal display ; Resistive touchscreen ; Underpowered CPU ; No GPS ; No video output ; No Android Market ; Outdated OS

and it does little to stand out, but it doesn't creak like a cellar door when flexed and doesn't offend the eye with its poor design choices. So far, so good.

Binatone HomeSurf 705 review

An Android tablet for under £100. What could possibly go wrong?

Decent build quality ; Cheap

Unforgivable touchscreen ; Serious lack of apps available ; Low-resolution screen ; Out-of-date software

Don't buy this. Save up and get a better tablet, or an iPod touch. It's cheap, yes — but because it's very, very cheap.

A limited budget means that the HomeSurf doesn't have many of the features you'd expect from a tablet, and the resistive screen and lack of Android Market make it barely useable

Android from Binatone HomeSurf 705

This is the smallest tablet I have reviewed and indeed it is running the earliest version of Android at only 2.1. However as they say ‘size is not everything' it is still larger than the average smart phone and can well have a place.

The small 36 page User Guide is adequate, you also get the mains charger a USB lead and a pair of earbuds

HomeSurf 705 Android Tablet : Binatone HomeSurf Android 705

While HP may have decided that tablets were not an area worthy of its expertise, other companies have a different opinion. One such company is Binatone with products that include the HomeSurf 705 model that is being priced at under £100.

This Store opens in portrait rather than the expected landscape mode but then switches orientation once you have made the initial selection of app category. This could hardly be considered the ideal welcome to this facility. One app that is already...

You miss out on one of the main benefits of the Android OS –

It's cheap; can be used as an e-reader

Dreadful display, really slow chip; no access to Android market
