Lenovo Miix 2 8 review: A fast tablet that's short on features

Aside from its speed and long battery life, little about this 8-inch device sets it apart from its strong competition.

Very thin and light ; Great benchmark performance and battery life ; Touch-sensitive Windows button

Too few I/O ports ; Screen too bright for nighttime reading ; Speakers distort at high volume

Lenovo’s Miix 2 8 delivers great performance and battery life, but these upsides are tempered by a dearth of extra features.

Other features include a 2 Mp front camera, 5 Mp rear camera, and a combined headphone/microphone socket. That's the only configuration available here in the UK, although Lenovo is also planning to make 10-inch and 11-inch models that we hope to review...

With its attractive, compact design and sub-£300 price tag the Miix 2 8 is one of the new Windows tablets that provides a more affordable alternative to the Microsoft Surface. It can't go head-to-head with the iPad and Android tablets in terms of apps,...

Lenovo Miix 2 8

The compact cousin of the Lenovo Miix 2 10 Tablet, the Miix 2 8 is not only the first compact Windows tablet from Lenovo we've reviewed, but one of only a handful of compact Windows tablets on the market. Like its larger stablemate, the 8in Miix 2 is...

A competent Windows tablet let down by a disappointing screen, the lack of a video output and mediocre build quality

Great device for the right use case

I get a kick out of people that: (1) bash a tablet because of Windows 8 because they hate on the OS, as if its the tablet's fault. I'm here to tell you windows 8.1 is a perfectly functional OS and works great on touch devices. I do mean 8.1 however....

screen resolution ; screen brightness ; performance (for the right things...) ; form factor ; battery life

Atom processor could be more powerful, but that's NOT Lenovo's fault ; Only 2GB of memory, but guess what, all the tablets in this space have 2GB cause they're built to fit a need that doesn't require more

Great Case

You would think Windows8 would be better, but obviously not. The thing wants me to register my copy of Windows all the time by entering something from the box. And it crashes a lot, never have I seen that happen on the iPad where I get an ugly dot...

Good Hardware - Win8.1 not so good

If you just want a tablet that just works, go with android or if you really want simple and I device..... If you want to run windows desktop software on a really small size machine, this is your choice.

Lenovo hardware is great ; Screen is very bright and resolution is good - can read outdoors ; Bios is pretty good for being UEFI ; Runs windows software ; With bluetooth mouse and keyboard it works as a micro laptop with all the software you are used...

32 bit UEFI means backup solutions based on Linux are tough since few Linux distros support 32 bit UEFI. Would have been better with 64 bit but Microsoft insists that us need 32bit for "ready standby". Google it and read the sad story ; Windows 8.1 is...

Lenovo not so good

Be careful on this one. There is a lot of chat about when Microsoft upgraded to 8.1. This seemed to be a common problem. I would have liked the unit and given it 5 stars if it were not for this issue.

Build quality is good, light and small design. Good battery life

There is a problem on the Miix 8 with Windows 8.1. When it goes to sleep it is very difficult to wake up. Pushing the power button and windows button at the same time sometimes got it to wake. Once unit did wake, it would drop the wifi. The only way to...

Impressive for a small tablet.

I also got the Flip Cover With Stylus. The cover fits nicely and the Stylus has a thin tip which works very well.

It runs windows 8.1 very well. It boots up quite fast. 64GB Micro SDXC Flash Card works well. I have not had sufficient time to do a complete battery test but so far the battery life seems decent

GPS is present and does work but only about 25% of the time. I would not use this device for navigation purposes. Although Neweggs' specifications page says it has a HDMI port it does not
