Review Microsoft Surface Pro 2 Tablet

Cautious evolution. Microsoft's second iteration of the Surface Pro aims at eradicating its predecessor's biggest flaws while at the same time staying true to its original concept. We have done some extensive testing to find out whether this powerful...

Battery Life; Sheer Performance; Versatility; True digitizer pen; Display; Noise emissions; Build quality; Integrated kickstand; Magnetic power connector; Power adapter with integrated USB charging functionality

Weight; Camera resolution; Heat emissions (under full load); Price; Expensive accessories; Somewhat reduced display sharpness when scaled up

Direct competition is nowhere to be found at the time of writing. The other contestants are either not powerful enough, lack the digitizer functionality of the Surface Pro 2, ship without full Windows 8.1 or offer a different form factor. Still,...

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 Review: Better Than Expected

Most people weren't impressed by the original Microsoft Surface and Windows RT, but keep reading to find out why the newest Surface is "a notebook in a tablet's body."

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 Review

Thanks to its much-improved battery life and fast performance, the Microsoft Surface Pro 2 is a compelling tablet and laptop in one device.

Attractive magnesium alloy design; Vivid and responsive 1080p touch screen; Improved active stylus; Loud and clear audio; Faster than similarly configured Ultrabooks; Long battery life

Keyboard not included; Cramped touchpad; Relatively heavy for a tablet; Limited tablet app selection; Poor camera quality

Thanks to its much-improved battery life and fast performance, the Microsoft Surface Pro 2 is a compelling tablet and laptop in one device.

Surface Pro 2 review: This is the Windows tablet you're looking for

Take a Haswell CPU and better integrated graphics. Add improved Touch and Type Covers. Suddenly, Microsoft's next-gen tablet is the best hybrid around.

Clearly, Microsoft has lots of refinement left to do. But despite all the Surface Pro 2’s flaws, there’s something alluring about it. No other touchscreen laptop or convertible device plays the hybrid game as well as the Surface Pro 2 does. The...

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 review: Better, but too heavy and too expensive

The Haswell-based Surface Pro 2 delivers improved performance and battery life, and its dual-angle kickstand is also welcome. However, the Pro 2's unchanged chassis design feels bulkier and heavier than ever, and it becomes very expensive when fully...

Improved performance and battery life ; Good 10.6-inch full-HD multitouch display ; Backlit Touch Cover 2 ; Wide range of available accessories, including docking station

Bulky and heavy ; Magnetic power connection is still awkward ; No support for 802.11ac Wi-Fi ; No GPS, NFC or mobile broadband ; Expensive

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 review: a tablet that works best as a laptop

We could debate all day about whether the original Surface Pro was supposed to be more of a tablet, or a laptop with a detachable keyboard. Either way,

Attractive, well-built hardware ; Great display ; Fast performance, improved battery life ; More comfortable to use in the lap

Still heavy as a standalone tablet ; Typing experience hasn't improved much

The new Surface Pro is more viable as a laptop replacement, but it hasn't made much progress as a standalone tablet. Ultimately, it's at its best in laptop mode, but it's still not always as comfortable to use as a proper Ultrabook.

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 Review

When Microsoft introduced its first Surface devices last year, it did so in a staggered fashion. Surface RT showed up first, then four months later Surface Pro went on sale. Despite sharing a lot of the same DNA, the response to Surface Pro was much...

Surface Pro 2 is a good improvement over its predecessor. The platform is quicker, quieter and boasts longer battery life as well. The new kickstand is awesome, as are the new touch/type covers, and the new display is a big step in the right direction....

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 review

I've been using the Surface Pro ever since it came out, but as much as I want to I've never been able to use it as my laptop replacement. It's powerful and impressive, but it's just too limited as a laptop, and too chunky as a tablet. I use tablets for...

A super fast Windows PC ; Improved battery life ; Combination of touch, keyboard, mouse, and pen

Heavy and thick for a tablet ; Not perfect on your lap for a laptop ; Lack of apps for tablet use

Microsoft Surface Pro 2

Just in time for Microsoft's Windows 8.1 operating system update , the company's flagship Surface tablet line is also getting a makeover. Or in the case of the $899 Surface Pro 2, it's more of a makeunder -- there's no flashy physical redesign, as with...

The Microsoft Surface Pro 2 is a faster, longer-battery-life version of the original model, upgraded with a current-gen Haswell processor. The keyboard cover is also improved with backlit keys, and is among the best tablet accessories ever devised.

The Surface Pro 2 remains stubbornly thick and heavy compared with some sleeker competitors. The base 64GB version may leave you starved for storage, and the keyboard cover, practically required, should be included instead of sold separately.

Microsoft's subtly updated Windows 8.1 tablet feels more like Surface Pro 1.5 -- improved battery life and better accessories make it a worthwhile (albeit pricey) laptop replacement, but it's still not an iPad-level category killer.
