Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Review

After the success of the Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung has decided to “double down” with their stylus-powered line of product, and that's how the Galaxy Note 10.1 was born. It brings everything that was good with the Galaxy Note smartphone [...]

If you don’t use the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 as a stylus device, it is a good tablet, but chances are that you can find very competitive offers out there that will outperform it in one way or another. The value of the Galaxy Note 10.1 is clearly not...

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (Verizon Wireless)

Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1 comes to Verizon Wireless with 4G LTE, a host of software updates and stellar stylus integration.

Excellent S Pen integration; All-day battery life on Wi-Fi; Included apps are top-notch; Solid multitasking experience

Lower-resolution display than competitors; Relatively short battery life over 4G LTE; Plastic chassis

Click to EnlargeThe Galaxy Note 10.1 for Verizon features a host of new updates, including improved S Pen functionality and greater multitasking capabilities. However, you can get all of these goodies on the Wi-Fi-only version. If you want 4G LTE built...

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (16GB, Verizon Wireless)

If pressed on that question, my answer would have to be "no." That is, if you're simply looking for a simple tablet to do simple, tablet-y things. If that describes you, know that there are plenty of cheaper tablets that will meet your needs.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (Verizon Wireless) features tangible UI improvements that implement the S Pen in useful, logical, and cool ways. Its storage capacity can be expanded via microSD, and the IR blaster remains a thoughtful addition.

The price is far too high for only 16GB of native storage, and the build quality feels weaker and inelegant compared to even lower-priced tablets.

A better tablet now than it was last year, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (Verizon Wireless) is unfortunately still too expensive for most.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 review

When it works well, the Galaxy Note 10.1's S Pen functionality is impressive and reliable. However, we'd like to see more emphasis on handwriting recognition. The quad-core processor can surely handle this, and we'll be looking for it in the...

Responsive S Pen stylus ; Quad-core processor ; Nice split-screen function ; The only 10.1in. tablet with pen input

Proprietary charge/PC connector ; No Micro-USB port ; No HDMI port ; Handwriting recognition could be supported more widely ; Relatively expensive ; Slightly flimsy build

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

Samsung desperately wants to sell a hit tablet. It has tried making tablets in every size: 7 inches, 7.7 inches, 8.9 inches, 10.1 inches. It has tried making them thinner, lighter, more colorful. It has tried marketing them to businesses. It has tried...

Powerful quadcore processor ; Double the RAM of other tablets ; S Pen stylus is nice alternative ; Split keyboard rocks ; Decent rear camera ; MicroSD slot

Android isn't suited for large tablets ; Low-resolution screen (compared to iPad) ; Not enough Android tablet apps ; Multiscreen mode is too limited ; Speakers are loud but not clear ; Proprietary charge port

With the Note 10.1, Samsung still hasn't found the right formula for tablets.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

Thanks to a built-in pen and multitasking enhancements, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is a better productivity tool than other Android tablets.

Good audio; Integrates stylus well; A lot of included apps; Long battery life

S Note app confusing ; Lower-resolution display than competitors; Plastic design; Some lag when multitasking

Click to EnlargeSamsung has created one of the most versatile Android tablets yet in the Galaxy Note 10.1. The S Pen is well-integrated with the software, and we see both professionals and creative types picking up this device. And while we wish the...

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (32GB, gray)

With the inclusion of a stylus, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 attempts something different for full-size tablets. In certain apps the S Pen (as the stylus is called) does improve precision and can make note taking a much faster affair. Also, if you're...

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 sports a proven, sensible design, a bevy of useful features, and fast performance. The S Pen Stylus is a unique addition.

Only a limited number of apps make full use of the S Pen and some of the ones that do can be buggy and confusing. Some S Pen features aren't enabled by default and others don't work properly.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is the best Samsung tablet yet. If you can get over its somewhat high price, it's a sound Android tablet investment.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 review

It's no secret that I've been excited to review the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 for weeks now. I spend all day editing and critiquing documents, and I've been imagining a parallel world created by the Note's stylus: a world where I edit articles with red...

S Pen works well ; Photoshop Touch is fun

Sluggish performance ; Overbearing Samsung software ; No killer S Pen apps

A disappointing Android tablet with a pen is still a disappointing Android tablet

Fine-tuned S-Pen experience ; Smooth performance ; Multiscreen function allows for true, simultaneous multi-tasking
