Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 review: Different magic

Samsung's impressive tablet lineup is already in its second generation, but the one that stands out is surprisingly at the lower end of both the size range and the age bracket. The ultra-thin and incredibly light Super-AMOLED-packing Galaxy Tab 7.7 may...

7.7" 16M-color Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen of WXGA resolution (1280 x 800 pixels) ; Weighs 340 g only ; Exynos chipset: Dual-core 1.4GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor; 1GB of RAM; Mali-400MP GPU ; Android 3.2 Honeycomb with TouchWiz UX UI (4.0...

Non-replaceable battery ; Proprietary 30-pin connector for charging and connectivity ; No Full HD video recording (might be fixed by the ICS update) ; No ICS yet (coming up though) ; Keyboard dock works in portrait mode only ; Not cheap

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 LTE

We've said it before, but it won't be long before Samsung has a Galaxy Tab in every possible size. More than any other tablet maker, the company is trying on all sizes with consumers to see what sticks. Until now, our favorite has been the Galaxy Tab...

Fantastic battery life ; Gorgeous AMOLED screen ; 7.7 inches is a good screen size ; Samsung TouchWiz UI looks great ; 4G LTE connectivity ; Super thin and super lightweight ; Great construction

Crappy rear camera ; Android 4.0 upgrade pending ; Expensive ($500-$700) ; Android tablet apps are sparse

It is super thin, super lightweight, has an amazing AMOLED screen, industry-leading battery life, and a resolution that's high enough to make a small 7.7-inch screen into a fully operational Honeycomb tablet

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 (Verizon)

Editors' note : Thanks to the release of recent, high-quality tablets, the overall score of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 has been adjusted down from 7.3 to 7.2.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 's AMOLED screen provides gloriously deep blacks and superbright colors. The tablet is the thinnest small-form tablet yet and includes expandable memory, impressive games performance, and an IR sensor that turns the tablet...

Two-year cellular contracts for tablets still stink, and even if waived, the subsidized $500 price looks like a steal compared with the overpriced noncontract tag of $700 staring you in the face. Also, an HDMI or USB port would have been useful.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 delivers a beautiful screen and fast performance but our enthusiasm is ultimately tempered when the price is taken into account.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 for Verizon review

Samsung sells a lot of different tablets, and the number's growing rapidly. Typically the differences between models are slight — a slightly larger or smaller screen, a new processor, or a thinner chassis — but Samsung took some bigger steps with the...

Excellent display ; Thin and well-built ; Solid LTE speeds ; Great battery life

Honeycomb is a drag on any tablet ; Expensive, especially off-contract ; Some bloatware

Samsung picked everything right except the operating system

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Full Size Keyboard Dock Review

Just this past week we got our hands on the Galaxy Tab 7.7 LTE, a perfectly excellent tablet from Samsung carried by Verizon and reviewed and full by us. This week we've got our hands on the official Full Size Keyboard Dock, as it were, and it's...

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 LTE Review

The size range of Android-based devices Samsung has made over the past year is far and away the largest any manufacturer has yet achieved, and if you're unable to find the screen size you desire at the moment, you likely have only to wait another week...

If you’ve tried a 10-inch tablet and you find it sort of absurd, but still want a display larger than your everyday average smartphone, take a peek at this tablet at your local Verizon outlet. It’s certainly an entertaining device to play with.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 (global edition)

Within an 11-day period last fall, Engadget published reviews of two different Samsung Galaxy tablets. At the time, we felt the company was turning into a caricature of itself, with slates in every conceivable size, including 10.1, 8.9 and 7 inches....

Record-breaking battery life ; Brilliant Super AMOLED Plus display ; Fast performance ; Thin and light, well-made

Expensive, especially for a 7-incher ; Not immune to Honeycomb-related hiccups

With record-breaking battery life, a gorgeous display and thin design, this tablet raises the bar for 7-inch slates.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 LTE (Verizon Wireless)

The Tab 7.7 supports Verizon's 3G and 4G LTE networks, as opposed to the Wi-Fi-only Tab 7.0 Plus. That makes for a lot more flexibility, although of course you'll pay in battery life.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 LTE

When it comes to cranking out new Android tablets, few, if any, manufacturers are more prolific than Samsung. Over the past couple of years, the Korean electronics giant has made (and we've reviewed) top-notch slates in several different sizes, at...

Great-looking screen ; Superior sound ; Good-quality cameras ; Long battery life ; Infrared emitter ; Verizon 4G LTE support

Expensive ; Outdated Android OS ; No dedicated HDMI or USB ports

This 4G LTE-ready slate performs well and provides exceptional battery life, but its OS and CPU are a bit dated, and it costs a lot for such a small tablet.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7″ 16GB Review

The Android lightweight that's won us over.

Gorgeous display, good battery life, music and video sound great

Sub-par call quality, no mini-HDMI option, disappointing camera

Samsung has also included its own app store, called ‘Samsung App’ – the content available here depends on the region read from your SIM card, so if there is no SIM installed then the app will not launch. It’s a bit weird that Samsung would want its own...
