Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Review

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is the successor to Sony Xperia Z Tablet (announced in February 2013, available in the U.S. in May 2013) and Sony Xperia S (released September 2012). The company debut the Z2 this February, hailing it as “the slimmest, lightweight...

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet review

We review Xperia Z2 Tablet, Sony's newest Android tablet. How does it stakc up to the competition, and to the iPad Air? Find out here.

Incredibly thin and light ; Vibrant, high-resolution screen ; Comfortable to hold ; Powerful processor & specs ; MicroSD for more storage ; Water and dust resistant

Lacks tablet app selection of iPad ; Rear camera does not impress ; A few of Sony’s UI modifications are clunky ; Must remove waterproof cover to access Micro USB ; 500 is expensive for an Android tablet ; So thin that you can flex it in your hands

The Xperia Z2 Tablet is not perfect, but it’s a winner. Its $500 price tag is steep for an Android tablet, but this time around Sony is a step above most devices out there. When your biggest rival is the iPad, you’re on the right track. The Z2 matches...

Sony isn't usually in the Android limelight, and that's too bad. This tablet has everything you could want from a 10-inch slate.

1080p display is crisp, clear, and great for watching video ; Thin, light, and easy to cart around

Rear-facing camera is subpar ; Speakers easily covered up because of their poor placement

The Xperia Z2 Tablet is water-resistant, thin, and, easy to use on a commute. But it also carries a fairly steep price tag.

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet review: A top-tier slate with a familiar face

Oh, Sony. Its earliest Android tablet efforts were a little odd (and that's putting it politely), but the company eventually managed to get its act

Incredibly thin and waterproof, too ; Snappy performance ; Sony's Android UI is thoughtful and lightweight

Relatively short battery life ; Glossy screen ; Middling speakers ; Both cameras are underwhelming

Not only is the Tablet Z2 the thinnest and lightest tab Sony has ever made, but also it's far and away the best. It's trim design and strong spec sheet makes it a strong competitor against similarly sized tabs from Sony's arch-rival, Samsung.

Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet review: One Sony, two devices

After years of extensive testing, I have determined the perfect screen size for watching YouTube videos in bed. It's just over 5 inches. Anything larger and you have to hold the device too far from that ideal chest-perching point, anything smaller and...

Stunning, minimalist design ; Display looks gorgeous indoors ; Nice stereo speakers ; Thinner and lighter than the iPad AIr, yet battery lasts just as long

Screen is practically useless on a sunny day ; Would benefit from a wider selection of tablet apps ; You can buy two Nexus 7s for the price

Sony is learning from past missteps, but has it learned enough?

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet

The Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is a stylish and powerful Android tablet, but aside from its razor thin profile, there's little to distinguish it from its peers.

Thin and light. Waterproof. Sharp display. Speedy Snapdragon 801 processor

Mediocre battery life. Feels delicate

Sony's doubling down on design. The Xperia Z2 Tablet is nearly identical to its predecessor, inheriting the minimalist, flat-rectangle design language that has come to define Sony's mobile portfolio. It's exquisitely slim and exudes refinement, but...

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Review

The Sony Xperia Z2 is a wonderfully light and thin Android tablet that packs a vivid display and plenty of battery life in a water-resistant package.

Super-thin and light; Bright and colorful display; Water resistant; Long battery life

Annoying port covers; Screen resolution trails competitors; Mediocre audio; Back picks up fingerprints

The Sony Xperia Z2 is a wonderfully light and thin Android tablet that packs a vivid display and plenty of battery life in a water-resistant package.

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet review: Elemental

Thinnest, lightest, highest water resistance - there are plenty of superlatives you can throw at the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet - prettiest is another, though that one's more subjective. What is certain is that Sony has crafted one of the best tablets of 2014.

Optional 3G and 4G LTE (Cat. 3, 100Mbps) ; 10.1" 16M-color capacitive touchscreen Triluminos display, 1,920 x 1,200 resolution, 224pixel density; X-Reality engine; shatter proof and scratch-resistant glass ; Android OS v4.4 KitKat with custom UI ;...

Sony has a long history of excellence in hardware design and the Xperia Z2 Tablet is a testament to that. It took the company a few generations to refine the OmniBalance body but the results speak for themselves - no other tablet is this thin or light.

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet LTE

The Apple iPad Air might be a slick piece of design, but dunk it in the bath and it'll quickly turn into a lifeless slab. Enter the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet -- a 10.1-inch slate that is completely waterproof. It replaces Sony's existing Xperia Tablet Z ,...

The Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet's processor is searingly powerful and copes well with games. It has a bright, vivid display and its razor-thin body can be taken in the shower without worry.

It loses its battery far too quickly in standby mode. Huge bezels around the display don't look good and make the body needlessly big, and its slim design has resulted in the whole thing being a little flexible.

While the battery is a concern, the Xperia Z2 Tablet is still a good-looking slate that's loaded with more than enough power for anything you're likely to throw at it. It's a good choice if you're looking for a more affordable iPad alternative with 4G...

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Review

After releasing the thinnest, lightest 10" slate last year with the Tablet Z, now Sony unleashes on the unsuspecting masses another svelte boomerang with the Xperia Z2 Tablet, that takes those same superlatives away from its predecessor. It also adds a...

Slimmest, lightest 10” tablet on the market ; Waterproof chassis ; Bright, vibrant display ; Quad-speaker setup with great sound output ; Good camera quality for pictures and video ; IR blaster to manage home electronics

High screen reflectance makes outdoor visibility difficult ; The side bezels are on the thick side ; Wobbly power/lock key, and thin, shallow volume rocker ; The back smudges very easily

Sony's Xperia Z2 Tablet is a great improvement over its record-setting predecessor. It is even thinner, with a much faster chipset, a better display, and excellent sound output. The slimmest, lightest 10-inch tablet on the planet makes a striking first...
