Toshiba Excite 7

The Toshiba Excite 7's poor screen and high price make it an uninspiring choice for an Android tablet.

Bezels make it easy to hold. Sturdy design. Nearly stock Android

Low-resolution display. Poor battery life. More expensive than its more powerful competition

Toshiba's Excite 7 ($169.99 direct) tries to compete with other low-end Android tablets like the Dell Venue 7 and Hisense Sero 7 Pro, but doesn't deliver in terms of performance for the price. Its low-resolution display and anemic stereo speakers make...

Toshiba Excite 7

The Toshiba Excite 7 offers impressive audio and a clean Android tablet experience, but doesn't offer enough for its price.

Clean build of Android; Above-average battery life; Deep full audio; Strong performance

Relatively pricey; Low-res display; Bland hardware design; Small amount of storage

Last year, the $169 Toshiba Excite 7 could have been an acceptable budget tablet, but competitors now offer better features for less money. The ASUS MeMO Pad HD 7 has an HD screen, double the storage, and much better endurance, for $40 less. While we...

Toshiba Excite Write

I could easily forgive the Toshiba Excite Write for failing to breach much new ground in the stylus tablet department, but its $600 price is the ultimate deal breaker. There just isn't enough offered here -- whether in performance or features -- to...

Writing on the Toshiba Excite Write's screen feels fluid and smooth, and I love the useful eraser button. It also boasts an incredibly sharp screen and includes storage expansion via microSD.

There are few useful stylus features and no built-in pocket for the pen. The screen at times becomes completely unresponsive.

Though it doesn't have any glaring problems, $600 is way too much for a tablet that fails to stand out in any significant way.

Toshiba Excite Pro

Despite its $500 price and the inclusion of a Tegra 4 CPU, the Toshiba Excite Pro isn't the performance monster one might expect. Gaming performance only matches that of the $229 Nexus 7, and the Pro gets thoroughly eclipsed by the $300 Nvidia Shield....

The Toshiba Excite Pro features an incredibly sharp screen, includes expandable storage through microSD, and has a sharp 8-megapixel back camera.

The tablet sputters and freezes far too often and heats up far beyond comfort when playing games or streaming video. It also shuts down on occasion for no apparent reason. The price is far too high given the performance issues.

The Toshiba Excite Pro is far too expensive to justify its buggy user experience.

Toshiba Excite Write review

Toshiba has been in the Android tablet game as long as anyone. This year, it's $600 Excite Write has all the fancy specs – a super high resolution 10-inch display, Nvidia Tegra 4 processor, Harmon Kardon speakers – and adds still more on top of that: a...

Bright, beautiful, HD screen ; Great pen experience ; Pre-loaded apps are well-curated ; Smooth, fast performance ; Long battery life

No port or attachment for pen ; Tablet gets very hot when used heavily ; Requires AC adapter to charge ; Toshiba could have modified Android more for pens

The Toshiba Excite Write is speedy, has excellent pen experience, and a beautiful display, but it has issues with overheating and there is no slot for the pen.

Toshiba Excite Write

The Toshiba Excite Write delivers fast performance, a stylus-optimized interface and a high-quality display for $599, but its battery life falls short.

Fast performance; Sharp display; High-quality speakers; Responsive stylus

Weak battery life; Poor camera; No stylus holster

The Toshiba Excite Write offers speedy performance, a smooth handwriting experience and a crisp 2560 x 1600 display for $599.99. We also like the crystal clear harman/kardon audio system. However, the Excite Write doesn't give you anywhere to put its...

Toshiba Excite Write review

It's a tricky thing to name your devices after a verb. And when we say "tricky," we mean ill-advised. That Toshiba could willfully overlook Excite as a

Unskinned Android ; Wacom digitizer responds well to pen input ; One of few 2,560 x 1,600 tablets

Display shows muted colors ; Awkward speaker placement ; Uneven performance

Toshiba's Excite Write reads well on paper, but its execution leaves a lot to be desired. Consumers are better off spending that $600 elsewhere.

Toshiba Excite Pure

With a 10-inch display, long battery life, and an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, the $299 Toshiba Excite Pure performs well for a midtier tablet.

Above-average battery life; Clear-sounding speakers; microSD Card expansion; Affordable

No back camera; Dim display

With good battery life and a relatively clean build of Android Jelly Bean, the Toshiba Excite Pure does everything it should for a $299 10-inch tablet. If you're on a budget and want a slate that you can share with the family, the device will satisfy...

Toshiba Excite Pure

The Toshiba Excite Pure is a forgettable 10-inch tablet that has a hard time challenging its competition. Even with a $300 price tag, the tablet isn't a good value thanks to its dated specs and poor screen resolution. In fact, it would be better to...

The Toshiba Excite Pure has a Micro-HDMI port and a microSD slot, so you can add up to 64GB of additional storage space. It’s also one of the cheapest 10-inch tablets on the market at $299.

The tablet's physical display has an outdated resolution, limited viewing angles, and washed-out colors. The older Tegra 3 processor and 1GB of RAM make the Excite Pure sluggish.

The Toshiba Excite Pure is one of the cheapest 10-inch tablets out there at $300, but even at that price, it's too expensive for the experience it offers.

Toshiba Excite Write

Even with its top-notch Tegra 4 processor and super-sharp display, the Toshiba Excite Write tablet can't quite overcome its exorbitant price.

Blazing-fast, quad-core Tegra 4 processor. Impressively sharp display. Android 4.2

Expensive. Relatively thick and heavy. Oversized power adapter. Lacks compelling pen integration

The Toshiba Excite Write is an absolute beast. Its quad-core Tegra 4 processor is the fastest we've seen, its 2,560-by-1,600-pixel display is tack sharp, and it even packs in a stylus with an active digitizer for good measure. The bad news? This beast...
