Viewsonic Viewpad 7

The Viewsonic Viewpad 7 has a long and impressive feature list, but its flaws outnumber its positives.

Responsive touch screen. Accepts SIM cards from any GSM carrier. Makes and receives voice calls. Full access to Android Market.

Expensive. Screen resolution warps graphics. Odd on-screen keyboard configuration. Both cameras produce blurry images. Tinny sounding stereo speakers. Little internal storage.

Speaking of things that feel strange, calling the top of the Viewpad 7 "the top" is slightly misleading—the device is clearly designed to be used primarily in landscape mode. The Home and Phone dialer screens, as well as some menus and apps, only...

ViewSonic ViewPad 7 review

Editors' note: Thanks to the release of recent, high-quality tablets, the overall score of the ViewPad 7 has been adjusted down from 7 to 5.

The ViewSonic ViewPad 7 delivers Android 2.2 on a 7-inch screen, with a powerful processor and rear- and front- facing cameras.

The ViewPad 7 is a doppelganger for the Samsung Galaxy Tab and shares many of its shortcomings, including a frustrating keyboard and awkward size. Lacks camera flash. Bring your own memory card.

The ViewPad 7 offers a solid platform for Android 2.2, but it comes off as an oversize, overpriced smartphone--not a Netbook alternative.

ViewSonic ViewPad 7 Review

Since the iPad, a flurry of large screened capacitive devices have been bidding for our cash, from Apple's own offering through to the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the Dell Streak and the soon to be released BlackBerry PlayBook. It's understandable that...

ViewSonic ViewPad 7

ViewSonic ViewPad 7 is an Android 2.2 tablet with a 7-inch WVGA (800x480 pixels) touchscreen, 3-megapixel camera on the back, VGA camera on the front (for video calls), HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS, stereo speakers and a memory card slot.

Verizon 4G LTE network is incredibly fast, 32GB microSD card included, Integrated kickstand works in portrait and landscape

Battery life is among the worst weve ever seen, No 4G LTE power toggle option, Kickstand in landscape orientation blocks microUSB port

Review: ViewSonic Viewpad 7

When you hear the name ViewSonic you probably think of computer monitors. The three parrots huddled together is as a logo many of us have stared at as we type away on our computers. But did you know they also make tablets? Well they do now. ViewSonic...

Nice Design ; Responsive touchscreen ; Comes with case ; Priced at $400 CDN

Older processor ; 512 MB internal memory ; Mediocre cameras ; Making phone calls is awkward

The Viewpad 7 certainly is a nice looking tablet, even if it does steal its looks from the iPhone 4. But don’t be fooled. This is no Apple product. The processor feels a bit outdated, the cameras are lack-luster (with no flash) and the the lack of...

ViewSonic ViewPad 7 Tablet Review

The first casualty of the tablet wars.

Portable and nicely constructed

Bad screen quality, slow CPU and not the best for typing

On the connectivity side, the ViewPad 7 comes equipped with all the radios found in higher-end Smartphones such as UMTS, Bluetooth 2.1 and 802.11b/g Wireless Networking. The 3G on the device can be used to make or receive calls as well however, using...

ViewSonic ViewPad 7 Review

ViewSonic ViewPad 7 is a 7-inch tablet with Android 2.2 OS, a 800 x 480-pixel capacitive touchscreen and the option of voice calls and data transfer via any mobile operators' network

Solid and convincing performance ; Responsive display and quality multitouch ; Excellent connectivity and call quality with SIM card

Poor on-screen imaging ; Landscape orientation required for many applications ; Poor rear-facing camera quality ; Not enough built-in memory ; No Flash support

On the other hand, this is a very solid and tough tablet which enables comfortable telephone calls and data transfer, even if the user is often on the go. Patches for eventual shortcomings can be easily found on the Android Market. However, the bottom...

Android Tablet Review: ViewSonic ViewPad 7

Comparisons, it's said, are odious - or odorous, as Shakespeare amended the saying. But in the case of post-iPad tablets, comparisons are impossible not to make.

If you could save $100 or even $50 per unit by going with the ViewPad over the Galaxy Tab, it might be worth it, but at only $20 or $30 less (when you factor in the cost of flash memory), it's probably not. Maybe ViewSonic will drop the price.

ViewSonic ViewPad 7 Android Tablet Review

It seems like we've all been waiting for "the iPad killer." It's not that anybody thinks Apple's slate device needs to be knocked off its perch directly, but let's be honest, consumers benefit from competitive options to choose from, whether it be...

Decent midrange tablet performance ; Good, durable build quality ; Multitude of IO and expansion options ; Android 2.2 FroYo out of the box

Lower res, lower viewing angle screen ; Slower 600MHz ARM11 core CPU but didn't hold it back too much ; Slightly bulky around its edges ; Low resolution camera (3PM)

ViewPad 7 Performance Take-Aways: The ViewSonic ViewPad 7 pleasantly surprised us in spots and disappointed a bit in others. The device proved to be very responsive and actually offered better overall performance than we expected in anything from...
