For the past decade, we've been hearing about a miraculous new technology called OLED that will reshape our lives. Both Samsung and LG now produce and sell OLED TVs, which cost around $10,000 retail - in both flat and curved form factors.

It's OLED. It's curved. It's bloody brilliant

Remarkable contrast-rich pictures ; Stunning design ; Unexpectedly good audio ; Content-rich smart system

The curve is divisive ; It's relatively expensive ; Missing some catch-up TV ; It's not 4K

The long, long wait is over and vaguely affordable big-screen OLED entertainment has finally arrived. And what style it's arrived in, with the 55EA9800 imperiously rising to the challenge of living up to all the hype OLED has built up around itself...

It's OLED, it's curved, and it's absolutely brilliant.

Amazing contrast performance ; Sensational design ; Spectacular colour

Curve creates viewing angle issues ; It's not 4K

The only suggestions we’d make are that you reduce the contrast from the maximum level used by some of the provided presets to around 80, and that you leave the Dynamic Contrast setting on low. This does cause a little bit of the sort of brightness...

Stunning black levels, punchy highlights and a natural touch with colours make this LG OLED a great first effort

Black levels are incredibly deep and solid ; Bright and punchy whites ; Clean and detailed picture ; Colours are natural, vibrant and subtle ; Immersive, comfortable watch ; Good selection of smart features ; Responsive remotes

Slight motion issues ; Deepest blacks and brightest whites could have a touch more subtlety ; Edges could be crisper ; High price

The LG’s current and only rival is the Samsung KE55S9C OLED, which offers a touch more pizzazz, albeit with smoother motion. However, this is only the first generation of OLED screens, and while we like what we see so far, there are also a few issues...
