I wish I'd known that this player was around before DVD...

Excellence personified

I've used this for 2 years now and cannot fault it. It plays tapes from all over the world flawlessly. The best feature, though is this: I have kids away in college overseas; I can record US programs out to PAL format and they can view them in Europe...

Fantastic multi system VCR

Fantastic multi system VCR

Well, quite simply I think this VCR is fantastic. It is easy to use, easy to install, easy to everything. Just pop in your videotape and watch it - doesn't matter where it's from, the VCR decides what system it is and decodes it. Are you a Brit Abroad?...

Product Specifications

The accelerating trend toward globalization creates more and more occasions to exchange video information for both business and personal use. However, different TV and video standards sometimes make it impossible to view programs or tapes from other countries. Aiwa is introducing the HV-MX100 4-head hi-fi multi converter VCR compatible with almost all video standards in use around the world. It allows users to record Japanese TV programs in other worldwide standards, and features a worldwide tuner that can receive TV broadcasts in all major countries. Channels received are: in Japan (VHF) 1-12 (UHF) 13 - 62 (CATV) C13 - C63; in the U.S.A. (VHF 7-13 (UHF) 14- 63 (CATV) A5-A1, A-W, W+1 - W+78; in PAL area (VHF) B/G: 1A, E2-E12 D/K: R1 - R12, C1-C12 I: A-J (UHF) B/G, D/K, I: 21-69 (CATV) B/G, D/K, I: S1 - S41. The HV-MX100's digital converter also converts different standards (NTSC/PAL/SECAM/MESECAM/PAL-M/PAL-N) for both recording and playback. The HV-MX100 makes it possible to reproduce videotapes produced in various countries in the Japanese standard; record Japanese programs in standards used in other countries, connect another video deck to convert and dub tapes in different standards; and receive and record TV programs in major countries. The HV-MX100 is a convenient tool for Japanese living or working overseas, as well as foreigners in Japan. For example, users can watch videos bought in foreign countries, record video letters for people overseas, and use the unit both in Japan and around the world. The HV-MX100 automatically adjusts to operate on any voltage from 100V to 240V, so there's no need to bring a transformer on overseas trips. Select English, German, French, Spanish, or Italian for the on-screen menu display. 4-head hi-fi system features low-noise screen and hi-fi stereo sound. The jog dial and shuttle ring make it easy to advance the tape frame by frame, vary the playback speed from one-twentieth to six times normal speed, and search for pictures. One-touch playback starts playback from the point on the tape where timed recording began. Pushing the one-touch playback button turns on the main unit or remote control and automatically rewinds the tape to the start of the last timed recording. "Freeze" function can temporarily stop the image on the screen. Index search VISS function fast-forwards or rewinds the tape to a designated index number. The unit features six programs per month recording timer. Its auto head cleaning system prevents dirt buildup on the heads if you use old or rental videotapes. Digital auto tracking automatically optimizes picture quality. The HV-MX100 features two AV input terminals (front and rear).
