Philips PFL5603 Series LCD HDTV (37",42")

With an image improvement option permanently activated and mediocre display of SD sources, the PFL5603H leaves something to be desired. "Inexperienced" eyes will like its rendering but the "pro" will quickly see its limits.

Sony Bravia KDL-W4000 Series LCD TV (32",40",46",52")

Dignified successor to the W3000, the W4000 attains a level of contrast and image quality rarely seen in LCD TVs. An excellent product!

Sony Bravia KDL-40W4000

By Vincent Lheur

A worthy successor to the W3000, the W4000 produces a level of contrast and image quality that are rarely attained by an LCD TV. An excellent choice!

Samsung LE-S86 Series LCD TV (26",32",40",46")

In the end, the LE22S86BD produces a very nice image though a bit too soft and with mediocre colors. Luckily, not all eyes are sensitive to this last defect and in this case given the small price, it's a good deal.

- Pivoting base, - Efficient SD rescaling, - Good contrast, - Numerous options to adjust image

- Poor colors, - Image lacks sharpness, - Poor default settings, - Significant reframing of SD sources

Sensy LCD22VAL

This screen has a good quality / price ratio but the focus isn't on reactivity. Its main problem is the external power transformer which is big and heats up.

Philips 220XW

When we buy a so called 2 ms screen, we especially do not want a 5 ms. Unfortunately, this is the problem with the very disappointing Philips 220XW. For the price, it severely handicaps this product.

LG LT75 Series LCD TV (32",42")

This TV/digital recorder offers nice images but blacks are too grayish. Rescaling of SD sources isn't excellent and we prefer leaving this job up to the DVD player.

- Integrated digital player (160 GB hard drive), - Very good colors, - Integrated TNT Tuner (although SD and not HD), - Nice colors, - Good rescaling of SD sources, - Original design, - The panel's excellent response time, - Nice colors, - Good ...

- Contrast and depth of black are too low (a recurrent defect on IPS panels), - Rescaling of SD sources slightly lacks sharpness (DVDs, etc.), - Narrow viewing angles, - Digital tuner incompatible with HD, - Design may turn some away, - Black could be ...

Sony XEL-1

After getting our hands on this Japanese version, we are quite simply impatient to see living room models arrive ? at reasonable prices. Note that our grading here is only involves OLED technology.

- Exceptional contrast, depth in black and brightness, - Thin (3 cm), - Large range of colors, - Extremely fast response time

- Higher energy consumption than LCDs, - Not available in Europe or in large sizes
