Good image detail and color accuracy. Best-sounding TV speakers I've heard to date. All A/V connections are accessible from the front of the TV. User-upgradeable firmware. Accepts 1080p digital input.

The HP Pavilion md5880n is an impressive 1080p rear-projection HDTV that delivers a detailed picture wrapped in a stylish and functional design.

HP MD5880N HDTV

When thinking about big-screen TVs, the name Hewlett-Packard usually doesn't come to mind. But based on our tests of the company's 58-inch MD5880n DLP set, maybe that perception should change.

Of the 1080p HDTV sets we've tested, the MD5880n offers the most for your money

HP MD6580n

Review: About five years ago, computer manufacturers started selling electronics. At first, they started small, with digital cameras, portable audio players, and TVs, but none of these were particularly daring, although the iPod was something of a hit....

Accurate color temperature; excellent black-level performance; accepts 1080p sources via HDMI; ample jack pack accessible via front panel; thumbnail source selection feature

Nondefeatable edge enhancement; somewhat inaccurate primary colors; can't fully resolve 1080p

While it doesn't quite deliver the best picture among 1080p HDTVs, the HP MD6580n's innovative design and future-ready inputs may tip the scales in its favor anyway.

3.5 years in, same bulb!!!

I bought this TV in January of 2006 when I found it on sale at Brandsmart for $1798. I was a bit wary of buying an HP television, but figured what the heck. I don't regret that decision in the slightest. It's now been over 3 years since I bought it,...

Great TV for the money spent ; Plays nice with other HDMI equipment ; Front-side connections ; Cable-Card

Flaky IR reception

Product Specifications

HP brings new meaning to basic black by combining a beautifully refined, sleek exterior with HP color science and bold engineering. This 65-inch HP Pavilion microdisplay TV offers a rich visual feast for the eyes. HP Visual Fidelity includes Wobulation, a resolution-doubling technology that produces a smoother high-definition picture with lush, vibrant colors and fine detail - virtually free from the "screen door" effect common to microdisplay TVs. Building on popular DLP technology with remarkably steep contrast ratios, black enhancements and a brighter lamp, picture details emerge from dark or low-light scenes and richer colors appear with improved contrast. HP Visual Fidelity technologies are the power behind the picture, resulting in superior picture definition that you won't find anywhere else. Enjoying high-definition TV has never been easier! Installation is hassle-free with a lighted front connectivity panel that helps manage cables. Choose from up to ten sources and fine-tune color and sound via the remote and onscreen menus that are easy to understand and use. And an integrated CableCARD tuner eliminates the need for additional components. Four preset picture and four audio modes allow for fast, easy tuning. Simply set modes, save them and then choose what's best for your viewing conditions. Immerse yourself in thrilling, home-theater-quality sound. An impressive audio system includes surround capability and an integrated subwoofer, eliminating the need for additional sound components. The highly polished black finish brings a touch of class to any room, and takes up less space than a traditional TV.
