LG 42LE5500 - A Plethora of Goodness

Smart TVs are going to be a common term in the future and things to be in motion already. Smart TVs are going to transform the image of TVs from being just idiot boxes.

The LG 42LE5500 sells at a MRP price of Rs. 87,990, but the market price is expected to be closer to Rs. 70,000. It is more expensive than most standard 42-inch LCD TVs. Considering the kind of features such as the media playback function as well as...

LG Electronics LE5500 Series

(Editor's note: This review of the LG LE5500 series is based on our hands-on testing and evaluation of the 42-inch 42LE5500. According to the manufacturer, the image quality and features should be equivalent for each TV in this model line.)

Lots of picture settings ; Very light and comfortable remote

Menus are unattractive and hard to navigate ; Only five Web apps

The LE5500 series provides few Internet applications and delivers unexceptional image quality for a moderate price.

LG 47LE5500

With its razor-thin profile and lightly tinted bezel, the LG 47LE5500 ($2,099.99 list) makes for an attractive home theater centerpiece, plus you get sharp images, great color quality, and plenty of Web apps like Netflix and VUDU. This 47-inch HDTV...

Thin, attractive cabinet. Accurate color reproduction. Energy efficient. Solid Web apps

More expensive than the same-size competition. Relatively low contrast ratio. Some backlight bleed

A slim 47-inch HDTV featuring power-saving LED backlighting, the LG 47LE5500 features accurate colors, and offers a nice assortment of widgets and other interactive Web goodies. If just costs a little more than the same-screen-size competition.

LG 55LE5500

In the last few years the most compelling LCD challengers to the picture-quality reign of plasma were equipped with multizone LED backlights that could dim or brighten in different areas of the screen independently. Broadly known as "local dimming"...

Accurate color; matte screen performs well in bright rooms; plenty of streaming and interactive features; extensive picture controls; sleek styling with 1.1-inch-deep panel; energy efficient.

Imprecise local dimming causes stray illumination and blooming; reproduces light black levels; darker areas tinged blue; adjustable dejudder doesn't work well; benefits of 120Hz difficult to discern.

Some buyers might appreciate its design and features, but the picture quality of the LG LE5500 lags behind other local dimming LED-based LCDs.

Review: LG Electronics 47LE5500 47-Inch LCD TV

The LG LE5500 Series provides few Internet applications and delivers unexceptional image quality for a moderate price.

The LE5500 sports a shiny black bezel with a very faint hint of purple on the outer edges. It sits on a plain, black rectangular stand (the hint of purple recurs on the neck of the stand). When you turn the set on, a number of lights (for channels,...

Product Specifications

The LG LE5500 Series LED TV is a middle of the range HD TV that's perfect for someone wanting a nice TV but at a reasonable price. It offers all of the features of an edge-lit TV. At just 1.1" thick, it is one of the thinnest TVs available today. It offers local dimming, which can generate higher contrast ratios, as well as more accurate color reproduction. The LEDs also save energy. The TV has a standard array of ports - several HDMI ports, a USB port (which can be used with an included Wi-Fi dongle), and a variety of standard video / audio ports. It offers internet connectivity with streaming content from a number of popular service providers. The picture quality isn't the highest, but it still offers all the great features of high-end HD LED LCD TVs, and is well worth looking at.
