It's been a while since a full fledged HDTV has made its way to our labs, but now all the brands are pipelining models one after the other. Today we have LG, and their newborn Infinia Series of LCD TVs. The LED8500 model came packed in a wooden freight...

The price is a a whopping Rs. 1,75,000, but that actually doesn’t surprise me considering the fact that it’s a brand new, next to flagship model of LG, with local dimming LEDs and a basket of features. The blacks and overall contrast is really...

LG Electronics 55LE8500 55-Inch LCD TV

(Editor's note: This review of the LG LE8500 series is based on our hands-on testing and evaluation of the 47-inch 47LE8500. According to the manufacturer, the image quality and features should be equivalent for each TV in this model line.)

Full-array LED backlight ; 240Hz refresh rate ; Handsome set with good image quality and audio

Pricey for its screen-size class ; Very little printed documentation

The LG Infinia LE8500 Series looks good and delivers a slew of customization options, plus great Internet content--but image quality isn't great, and this HDTV is expensive.

LG Electronics Infinia 47LE8500 47-Inch LCD TV HDTV Review - PCWorld

The Panasonic Viera TC-P46G25 has a lot going for it, including a very low price. But the image quality just doesn't measure up.

LG Infinia 47LE8500

Editors' note (March 31, 2010): The performance rating on this review has been reduced one point, from "9" to "8," and the text modified, to better account for the impact of the uneven backlight performance.

Produces among the deepest shades of black of any TV; superb shadow detail; exceedingly accurate color; better off-angle viewing than many LCDs; controls local dimming "blooming" well; plenty of streaming and interactive features; extensive picture...

Expensive; uneven backlight uniformity; adjustable dejudder doesn't work well; subpar bright-room performance; benefits of 240Hz difficult to discern; some stray illumination and uniformity issues.

With the excellent picture quality of the local-dimming LE8500, LG challenges other LCD makers for videophile appeal.

LG 55LE8500 LED LCD HDTV First Impressions Review - Intro

The LG 55LE8500 is a 55-inch LED edge-lit LCD television. Positioned as the second-highest teir series, the LE85000s are likely to be strong performers, but they lack the 3D bells and whistles of the LE9500 series. Are we still supposed to get excited...

The 55LG8500 is a solid TV, at least based on the time we spent with it and its specs sheets. The series doesn't have a direct ancestor, but we reviewed the similar 47LH90 in 2009, and found it to be satisfactory, if a little pricey. The increased...

Review: LG Electronics 55LE8500 55-Inch LCD TV

The LG Infinia LE8500 Series looks good and delivers a slew of customization options, plus great Internet content--but image quality isn't great, and this HDTV is expensive.

With its skinny profile and strong lineup of features, the LG Infinia LE8500 series TVs certainly qualify as chic, connected HDTVs. Slightly more than an inch thick, these full-array backlit LED TV pack a good collection of Internet services (including...

LG 47LE8500 LED Backlit LCD TV Review

The LE8500 is loaded with extra features (some good, some not) and striking good looks. It is the next to highest end TV produced by LG for 2010 falling just below the LE9500 which has the simulated 480Hz rate that I cant imagine makes much difference....

With that done we will report up front that judder is noticeable and persistent especially in scenes with side to side panning. But it's worth the tradoff as the judder reduction option is just too distracting even at level 1

Review: LG Infinia 47LE8500

The LG Infinia 47LE8500 looks good and delivers a slew of customization options, plus great Internet content--but image quality isn't great, and this HDTV is expensive.

But at a recommended price of $2000 (as of August 8, 2010), the Infinia 47LE8500 costs more than most competitors in its screen-size class

LG 47LE8500 Review

LG 47LE8500 reviewed by ConsumerSearch, which notes pros and cons, along with reviews and ratings for the LG 47LE8500 and comparisons to other LCD TV

Terrific picture quality; Great color; Lots of user controls; Internet connectivity; Off-axis viewing much better than average

Some screen uniformity issues; Glossy screen; Poor built-in audio; No 3-D; Expensive; Wi-Fi not built-in

Product Specifications

The LG LE8500 series LED TVs are LG's second-nicest TV model. The 9500's are the nicer line, but the only major difference is 3D support. If you don't need 3D, and want to save a bit of money, the 8500 is a great way to go - it still offers an incredible picture. It has a smooth, one-piece glass front which makes a tiny bezel run smoothly with the picture and almost disappear. The LE8500s have support for a variety of online content, including Netflix, YouTube, Picasa, Flickr, and Yahoo Widgets, among others. It has a variety of picture settings which can be adjusted to get an optimum picture, and the local dimming provided by the LED backlighting creates incredibly deep black levels. Overall, the LE8500 from LG is a great HD TV and is packed with just about every feature you could want.
