Can LG's LED impress?

Wonderfully user friendly, excellent connectivity, great for watching downloaded films in HD and a good looking panel

LG's brilliant new LED TV heralds 'borderless' era

Gorgeous pictures ; Features ; Good looks ; User friendly

Nondescript audio ; Occasional motion judder

LG 42SL9000 42in LED LCD TV

LG enters the LED LCD TV arena and John's on hand to test its first offering, the 42in 42SL9000.

Anyway, having got that off my chest, this is where I intend to let the matter lie. After all, the 42SL9000 is very attractive in its own right, and can hardly be held responsible for the excesses of the marketing department.

LG 42SL9000 review

LG's 42SL9000 is the thinnest TV we've seen in our labs at just 28mm thick. This is made possible by LED backlighting, which takes up less room than traditional fluorescent backlights. This might make it seem ideal for wall-mounting, except for the...

An ideal TV for wall-mounting, but disappointing image quality considering the claimed contrast ratio and LED backlighting

LG SL9000 (42SL9000) review

The LG 42SL9000 looks great and offers a solid feature set, but its performance falls a notch or two short of the best that the LED TV world currently has to offer. As a result, its price looks rather steep

Gorgeous and remarkably slim design ; Good pictures ; Loads of features ; Excellent operating system

One or two colour problems ; Black levels are nothing special by LED standards ; Motion isn't particularly well handled

Conclusion Glorious to look at, exceptionally well-specified and boasting plenty of features, the LG 42SL9000 makes an admirable attempt at stealing Samsung's super-slim-TV crown. But a few shortcomings in the picture-quality department make it a...

Not bad, but performance doesn't reflect price and appearance doesn't reflect description

Slim chassis, great ergonomics; stable, detailed images with fine low-light insight; effective tuners

Clean white tones hard to come by; motion processing modes

A decent TV but does not really gain that much from LED technology ..

LG have produced an LCD TV which delivers a stunning performance in some areas, notably colour reproduction and standard definition performance, but fails to deliver what we have come to expect from LED technology; a sublime black level performance.

LG 42SL9000 42" 1080p LED LCD HDTV

LG's been making real advances with LCD TV lately. Over the last year, the company have been remarkably attentive and responsive to any resolvable issues we've reported to them, and have been producing some displays that are certainly worthy of your...

LG 47SL9000 HDTV

There now are plenty of LED HDTVs out there and it seems as if a new one is announced almost every day, but the LG 47SL9000 is one of the best performers of the bunch. And it looks rather good too.

LG 42SL9000

The 42SL9000 also has a fine set of connections, including four HDMIs and a JPEG/MP3/DivX HD-capable USB port. Gadget hounds can even use a built-in wireless Bluetooth system to play files off suitable mobile phones, or send the TV's audio to Bluetooth...

Lovely design, very bright and colourful pictures, good standard def scaling

Pink tone to whites, limited viewing angle, a few processing side effects, not quite as good with contrast as other LEDs
