NEC PlasmaSync 61XR4A Plasma TV Review

In Physics we have learned that matter has three states known as solid, liquid and gas. In modern science Plasma can be known as the fourth state of the matter. Plasma panels use phosphor to display images. Xenon and Neon gases filled between two glass...

The list price on this Plasma TV is more than $11,000.00 but the street and internet price is in the area of $7,000.00 which makes it an attractive buy. Some minor artifacts when compared with the big picture, low price and long life of the product can...

NEC Plasmasync 61XR4G

With LCD technology already dominating the mainstream flatpanel TV market (32 inches and less), and threatening to claim more of the 40-42in market in the future, plasma is increasingly having to head for larger ground. Enter NEC's 61XR4G, which, at...

Pure impact, monster size, HD connectivity

Juddery motion, limited black levels at times

The screen reveals phenomenal texture in Manny the Mammoth's fur on the D-VHS HD tape of Ice Age; there's so much clarity I found myself gasping in admiration. It also relishes the definition available from Xbox 360 releases like Fight Night: Round 3,...

NEC 50XR4G

Although it's supposed to be part of NEC's 'residential' range, the 50XR4G comes with no built-in TV tuner.

Bright images, HD Ready, Good sound

Contrast and colour issues, Expensive optional speakers, No TV tuner or Scarts

Provided you can put up with the connection hassles, the 50XR4G is certainly not a bad plasma performer. But by the same token, when put in the context of some of its rivals, it's not a particularly appetising one either

NEC PlasmaSync 61XR4G 61in plasma TV

It's big, it's huge, it's massive, but is it good?

In other words, the 61XR4G likely imagines itself belonging to someone with, say, a Sky HD box, upscaling DVD player and Xbox 360, so that it can be fed only the finest diet of source material. And with an asking price of practically £9k, it’s probably...
