Panasonic PT-DLX76 review: Panasonic PT-DLX76

Relatively inexpensive for a 1080p HDTV; sharp picture with 1080 resolution sources; ample connectivity with dual 1080p-compatible HDMI inputs and a PC input; excellent feature set including numerous picture controls and CableCard.

Somewhat lighter black levels than comparable HDTVs; inaccurate color decoding; rainbows visible in some scenes to some viewers.

The Panasonic PT-61DLX76 didn't deliver the best picture quality we've seen among 1080p DLPs, but a solid features-to-price ratio helps increase its appeal.

Panasonic PT-61DLX76 61” 1080p DLP RPTV

In the realm of TVs, Panasonic is known for making some of the best plasma sets available. But it's not just a plasma company. After reviewing the superb TH-50PX60U plasma in Issue 73, I was curious to see how the company's rear-projection TVs stack up.

Test Bench: Panasonic PT-61DLX76 61-in 1080p DLP HDTV

User adjustments allowed calibration for greater accuracy in this range, but at the expense of inaccuracy below 50 IRE, where the color temperature leaned toward red. This could be evident in skin tones and in dark scenes despite fairly accurate color...

Panasonic is perfect

One "problem" with DLP is the bulb needs to warm up and cool down each time you turn it on or off.

Gorgeous picture, Quick warm-up, CableCard slot, TV Guide channel

Remote is not 100% compatible with my Panasonic surround sound system.

Bright projection HDTV well worth the price

Panasonic continues to manufacture excellent televisions and this includes the projection DLP.

Strengths include brightness, aspect picture configurations, PIP, price for specs, 2HDMI, ease in setup. TV competes against the Sony SXRD, but is much more affordable. Cable at 720P is Great!

Remote is not backlit, however we use a HD Cable DVR remote.

Very nice product at a great price

I purchased this product a week ago and so far am very satisfied with the purchase.

Huge screen, clear picture, easy set-up, unbelievable price.

Color seems a little off, but adjustable.

Product Specifications

Panasonic projection TVs with Texas Instruments DLP Technology utilize a small chip containing over a million microscopic mirrors that pivot back and forth in concert with a high-speed rotating color wheel. The advanced DLP optical system produces a bright, high-resolution, high contrast image in a display that is lighter and thinner than conventional CRT-based projection TVs. And, this model is equipped with incredible 1080p HD display capability, which provides twice the number of pixels as 720p HDTV displays. So, you'll be able to take full advantage of Panasonic Blue-Ray Disc players and other 1080p content when it becomes available.
