Panasonic TC-P42U2 Plasma HDTV Review - Intro

Panasonic TC-P42U2

The Panasonic TC-P42U2 ($799) is a 42-inch plasma TV, not exactly entry level, but light on features in order to keep the price well under $1000. However, the performance left a lot to be desired, which moves it from the "cheap, but in a good way" pile...

The Panasonic TC-P42U2 is not a top performer. The black levels were deep, but that's expected for a plasma display. Because the whites were not very bright (another common trait in plasmas), the overall contrast ratio suffered, measuring only 2581:1....

Bite the bullet

Great buy, highly recommended. 5 eggs

Great Quality, picked this HDTV up on black friday for 499.99 out the door. Set up couldn't have been any easier. The picture quality is fantastic, very vivid. I've been watching NHL-HD all the time on this and I'm very pleased. Good job Panasonic

I should have bought it sooner

Great TV

This plasma set has a truly great picture and was a super deal for the price! I didn't worry about the lack of internet apps because my Blu Ray player has all that I need! No problems with glare or burn in noticed

Only 3 HDMI inputs but that has been enough so far

Awesome TV

Beautiful, if not stunning, picture. I do not own cable. I watch TV with an antenna and the picture is just marvelous. Go to Best Buy and size up this TV next to ANY set. It is perfect

Excellent TV. Outstanding picture

This is the second Panasonic Viera Plasma I have purchased. The picture is just simply amazing and beats my sony LCD hands down. I got an open box deal on my second set for $479 and it was a real steal. This TV is simply amazing. Outstanding picture....

Remote can be a little laggy, but it is not too bothersome. While some may complain the sound is not loud, I found it very adequate

Love It - why did I wait?

I'd been putting off buying an HDTV as a a luxury I could do without but constantly window shopping. When I saw the price and specs on this baby I couldn't hold out any longer. My SD Tivo and DVDs look great, and HD-DVDs look fantastic.

Product Specifications

Make your movie night a cinematic experience. VIERA U2 Series Plasma HDTVs are ideal for sports and movies, with crisp, focused images during fast-moving scenes. 600Hz technology lets you view superb Full-HD motion and still images with 1,080 lines of resolution. For even greater clarity with motion images, Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology. This technology converts the motion in each scene into dots. And each frame is practically displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous systems, to reduce aftereffects. It's easy to view Full-HD images with the SD card slot. Watch and show your photos right after you take them. Simply insert an SD memory card into your VIERA HDTV to display photos on the large screen. It's much more fun when you can view them on a large screen HDTV with family and friends in high definition and a wide 16:9 aspect ratio.
