Panasonic Viera TH-42PX80U

Editor's note : The rating on this review has been lowered because of changes in the competitive marketplace.

Relatively inexpensive; produces a deep shade of black; accurate initial color temperature; solid connectivity with three HDMI inputs; handsome, understated exterior.

Color decoding accentuates red; inaccurate primary color of green; ineffective noise reduction.

Panasonic's TH-42PX80U 42-inch plasma sets the picture quality-to-value standard for entry-level plasma TVs.

Panasonic Viera TH-42PX80U

The Panasonic Viera TH-42PX80U keeps it simple for those needing a good TV without all the bells and whistles. The design is pretty straight forward. It is mostly black with nothing to really gawk over. A panel below the screen opens to reveal some...

Panasonic has been known to make some of the best plasma TVs, and the TH-42PX80U shows us why.

"Over all Great bang for the buck."

I'd buy this unit again. Very happy with it.

Great picture. Decent sound

No video out for surround sound. (or I can find such)

"television quit after under 2 years then died."

I cant believe it worked for less than two years, and of course regular warranty doesn't last that long, so I am basically screwed. Expensive television for just under two years of use..

worked great for almost two years, will cost $450 to repair, not worth it.

didnt have very good sound

"Disappointed with reliability"

Very disappointed with the support I've received from both Panasonic, the manufacturer and ABC Warehouse where I purchased not only the television, but another one and the mounts! Everyone wanted to wash their hands of the problem and make me pay for...

I purchased two of these for my business, however, they did not get used. Put one in my home for personal use and have had good success with it. Nice picture. Audio seems to come in somewhat quiet.

The second one, hardly used, the first month of light use, main power supply went. Panasonic and ABC Warehouse did nothing about it. Common problem I've found online, yet Panasonic does not stand behind obvious manufacture defect. Disappointing!

"Worked great, for 2 years, then died."

Product failed after 2 years of moderate service in a home environment. Service to repair the unit can cost close to the cost of replacing with a brand new unit.

Good picture, good initial price point, good looks.

Spent $800 to get a product that lasted 2 years. $400 / year for a TV seems quite steep.

"I've had no trouble with this set. Good value/money."

Nothing to say but see Pros above.

Ease of use, primarily. The picture is fine unless you compare it to a 1080; even then, it's not THAT bad. Like I said, for the money, well worth it and IF I get the proposed 5-7 years use from this plasma I've got no reason to complain.

One time, the screen went crazy-hazy-red and I have no clue as to why, but it's never done it again. Must have just been a fluke.

"What a waste of money"

Panasonic is putting out crappy plasma televisions that are having problems with the picture going out during the warranty period or soon after. If you purchase a Panasonic plasma TV, be aware of these problems. Do a Google search on Panasonic plasma...

I purchased this Panasonic plasma television in January 2009 after my Mitshubishi 36" TV died after 14 years of great service. The colors on the Panasonic are great and I loved the sharp picture. I didn't see any problems with burn-in or dead pixels.

After 17 months, the picture has died. The power button blinks once with a 2-3 second delay. Of course the TV is out of warranty so I'll have to pay out of pocket to have it repaired.

Panasonic Viera TH-50PX80U

Friends have other brands that cost 2-3 X as much and I would still take this plazma over them. Putting a blue ray on the others vs high def or dvd, i can't tell the differnce. They also say the same. Sorry they paid so much more with all the hype.

quality,price, brand, set up

teh base isn't the niceest, but if that's the only bad thing, that's good. Only 720 p, but other than blue ray, nothing out there with 1080. I had a big screen 5 years ago with 1080p ready and nothing to put out that signal anyway
