TH-46PZ800U

Panasonic's stylish TH-46PZ800U nicely balances image quality and features. Unfortunately, its price($2200 as of November 4, 2008) is $200 more than that of the next-most-expensive set in its size category, the Sharp Aquos LC-46D64U, and $800 more than...

Superior sound, with THX certification SD Card slot for multimedia

Expensive Not optimized for home use

In my hands-on tests, the Panasonic's audio quality was phenomenal when matched against competing sets' built-in speakers. The audio strained when I turned the volume all the way up, but at two-thirds of maximum volume, I could hear every quiet detail...

Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ800U

Editors' note: The rating on this review has been lowered and its Editors' Choice award removed because of changes in the competitive marketplace.

Reproduces deep black levels and highly accurate color; excellent uniformity with little false contouring; THX mode obviates in-depth calibration; relatively effective antireflective screen; solid connectivity with four HDMI and one PC input; handsome...

Expensive; blacks not quite as deep as the best plasmas; optional 24p mode introduces flicker; fewer picture controls than most HDTVs.

With the accuracy of its THX mode and great black-level performance, the Panasonic TH-50PZ800U is one of the best-performing HDTVs available.

Low-judder 24p picture; Almost totally independent of viewing angle; Excellent motion depiction; High maximum contrast

High power-consumption; Blurry HDMI-576i picture; Slight green tint; Weaknesses in de-interlacing

The menu offers all of the standard picture controls, but lacks the more-advanced adjustment options found on pricier Panasonic plasmas - such as a color-management system or a frame-rate setting. You can at least choose between gray and black bars...

Panasonic Viera TC-P42G10 Plasma HDTV

Panasonic's current lineup of plasma televisions is remarkably affordable compared with plasma sets of a few years ago. At $31 per diagonal inch, the new TC-P42G10 is far cheaper than even Panasonic envisioned in the caviar days of flat panels.

An Advanced menu includes additional controls. I left most of these in their default settings. The Light setting for Black Level reproduced above white and below black. Size2 on the HD Size control produced the lowest overscan, but as with several...

While two of the three other sets in the group outperformed it overall, the Panasonic held its own, particularly at its price. It received the highest score for value, which strongly suggests that the panel, overall, liked what it saw.

Panasonic TH-46PZ800U 46-inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

Panasonic's latest generation of plasma HDTV builds on the performance of its predecessors, adding unique new features sure to appeal to those in pursuit of big picture perfection.

The TH-46PZ800U gets the important stuff right, producing outstanding image quality, including excellent color saturation and deep black levels that give the picture an almost three-dimensional quality. The 48 Hz Cinema Mode does eliminate judder but...

Panasonic TH-50PZ800U Plasma HDTV Reviewed

This is the only Panasonic large plasma model to earn THX certification for video quality. It includes four HDMI, two component video and one PC input and allows you to view digital photos via an SD card reader that is compatible with the Gallery...

The THX mode may not be perfect inevery respect, but it creates a very pleasing image -- natural color, great detail, and minimal digital noise -- with no or minimal setupeffort required on the user's part ; This plasma produces arespectably deep black...

The new 48Hz mode reduces judder, but it adds noticeable flicker that some people will find even more distracting ; This TV isn't as good at upconverting SD content as the best panels we've seen, although it is solid in this respect ; Plasma TVs...

The Panasonic/THX collaborationproves to be a good one. The TH-50PZ800U is an excellent performer thatrivals the best panels on the market but comes in at a slightly lowerprice point.
