Plasma’s Not Yet Perfect, But Panasonic Is Doing It Best

Panasonic's TC-P55ST50 makes a solid case for giving a plasma HDTV a shot at the living room, especially for viewers who like their black levels inky and their colors resplendent.

Splendid color and deep blacks. Enough built-in apps to make a Roku box jealous. Better-than-average speakers. Blissfully smart menu system

Horrendous soap-opera effect that’s hard to fully eliminate. So-so brightness paired with an overactive auto-brightness control. Not enough HDMI inputs. 3-D glasses not included

With the Panasonic TC-PST50 series you get accurate colors and solid black level performance in a nicely styled plasma HDTV, but the panel doesn?t get very bright, and 3D glasses are not part of the deal.

Excellent color accuracy. Good black levels. Robust audio output. Sleek design

Not very bright. Uses lots of power. Only three HDMI ports. 3D glasses not included

The Panasonic P55ST50 is a tastefully designed 55-inch plasma HDTV that delivers very accurate colors, deep dark blacks, and wide off-angle viewing. Its $1,700 price tag is not unreasonable considering its performance, but you'll end up spending around...

Panasonic TC-P55ST50

The Panasonic TC-P55ST50 ($1699 MSRP) is a large plasma screen TV, displaying 1080p HD images with 3D and internet connectivity, that is supposed to be an improvement on last year's ST30 model. The improvements that Panasonic purports are better 3D...

Though the Panasonic TC-P55ST50 ($1699 MSRP) may have some great attributes, it lacks in some area of convenience concerning the internet and 3D.

Panasonic TC-P55ST50

Editors' note, April 17, 2013: The replacement for this TV, the Panasonic TC-PST60 series , earned an even higher rating as well as our latest Editors' Choice award. This review has not been otherwise modified or updated beyond this note.

The affordable Panasonic TC-PST50 series exhibited outstanding overall picture quality, characterized by exceedingly deep black levels with great shadow detail, accurate colors, and solid bright-room performance. Unlike LCDs, as a plasma it has superb...

The ST50 uses more power than competing LCD TVs, and doesn't perform as well in bright rooms as those with matte screens. It doesn't come with 3D glasses, and it showed more crosstalk in 3D than some competing TVs. The ST50 is only available in 50-inch...

With flagship-level picture quality for a midlevel price, the Panasonic ST50 series sets the value standard among videophile-grade TVs.

Panasonic TC-P55ST50

This TV does have one of the highest refresh rates in our top ten televisions. Active 3D glasses are pricey, but it would be nice if they included just one pair. However, it does have an excellent picture and satisfactory 3D capabilities. There are...

This TV can convert 2D images into a 3D experience

The Panasonic TC-P55ST50 does not have as many ports as other 3D TVs

Aside from a few connectivity issues, this is a satisfactory 3D TV.

"This is a very outstanding plasma HDTV."

I am an electronic sales and I say this is a excellent HDTV choice if you like to watch movies during nighttime. I also recommend you to check out http://www.squidoo.com/best-hdtv for information on what best HDTV to get this year.

Very good picture quality and color accuracy and viewing angle. It Produces some of the best black that I see so far. I highly recommend you get this if you plan to watch movies during nighttime.

The screen have glare if you watching it at during daytime which is kind of annoying. The sound quality not as good as home theater system.

"Excellent TV with awesome picture quality."

This is one AWESOME TV! The picture is incredible! Was really leery of the warnings about plasma TVs being dark. No problem in my living room at my house in Florida (with sunshine outside 300+ days/year).

Read the CNET review & specs, watched the video, & looked at the picture in-store all several times over, before purchasing. Did the same for multiple other LED & Plasma TVs before I purchased the TC-P55ST55. Agree with CNET review... it's "sp

Does run a little warm (generates some heat).
