Panasonic TC-P50G25 50-Inch Plasma TV

(Editor's note: This review of the Panasonic G25 series is based on our hands-on testing and evaluation of the 42-inch TC-P42G25. According to the manufacturer, the image quality and features should be equivalent for each TV in this model line.)

Very inexpensive ; Attractive menu and first-time wizard

Disappointing image quality

The Panasonic G25 Series has a lot going for it, including a very low price. But its image quality doesn't measure up to that of the best competing sets.

Panasonic Viera TC-P42G25 42-Inch Plasma TV

The 42-inch Panasonic Viera TC-P42G25 is a 1080p plasma HDTV with a 600Hz subfield drive. It's big, clunky, and thick, with elementary on-screen menus and a forgettable remote. Still, it does have some nice features, such as a cinema mode with THX...

YouTube application has lots of options ; Great range of viewing angles

Oversaturated colors ; Menus and remote are basic

This set has a great range of viewing angles and a low price--and a few image quality issues.

Panasonic TC-P50G25

Reports of plasma's demise are greatly exaggerated—at least as far as Panasonic is concerned. The company's 50-inch TC-P50G25 ($1,499.95 list) is one of four models in the G25 series and it joins 18 additional models in Panasonic's VIERA family of...

Reasonably priced. Excellent black levels. Beautiful HD picture. Wide viewing angles

Only 3 HDMI ports. Not terribly energy efficient. A limited number of Web apps

An affordably priced 50-inch plasma HDTV, Panasonic's TC-P50G25 offers deep blacks and a crisp, detailed HD picture—but it comes with some compromises.

Panasonic TC-P50G25 Plasma HDTV Review - Intro

The Panasonic TC-P50G25 is an entry-level, 50-inch plasma and, for an entry-level set, the TV put up some impressive numbers. The TV also has an ethernet port to connect to online content, but don't expect much from the feature. The second additional...

The Panasonic TC-P50G25 is a decent entry-level HDTV. The TC-P50G25 has a great black level, high contrast ratio, and an incredible viewing angle. The TV had some issues with its color performance, though, and the picture was often very noisy. The...

Panasonic Viera TC-P54G25

A lot has changed since we gave the Panasonic TC-P50V10 our Editors' Choice award last year. The most relevant to the review you're reading now can be summed up with the eminently Google-able phrase "Panasonic black levels." The short story? Testing...

Superb black-level performance; accurate primary colors in THX mode; great color saturation; effective antireflective screen; uses less power than previous 1080p plasmas; VieraCast provides access to select Internet services and improved customization.

Last year's Panasonic plasmas lost black-level performance over relatively short periods of time; cannot properly handle 1080p/24 sources; fewer streaming services and apps than the competition; uses more power than LCDs.

Panasonic's TC-PG20/25 series offers a highly tempting mix of features, value, and initial picture quality, but long-term black-level performance is still an open question.

Review: Panasonic TC-P50G25 50-Inch Plasma TV

The Panasonic G25 Series has a lot going for it, including a very low price. But its image quality doesn't measure up to that of the best competing sets.

The G25 series has a pretty basic design. Its bezel is shiny, black, squared-off, and somewhat thick; and the television sits on an oval swivel stand. Physical buttons (Power, Menu, Input/Ok, Volume, and Channels) are hidden on the back left side of...
