Philips Cinema 21:9 3D TV - Wide Load

I was quite sore that I missed out on the launch of this TV, but sure enough, it landed on our AV room's doorstep a short while after. I was amazed at the sheer size of the package, and was even more amazed when I actually got the monster out of its...

I really like the Cinema 21:9 and it is definitely one of the better TVs I’ve ever had the pleasure of testing. It has great picture reproduction capabilities, awesome sound and some nice features. However, there are these tiny things that Philips...

Philips Cinema 21:9 LCD TV

From the makers of the ubercool Ambilight series, which deservedly won accolades for design, comes a totally new concept of an LCD TV. Philips have released their 21:9 aspect ratio TV, with a reasonable level of aplomb and panache. Rightfully so, as...

The MRP is Rs. 4,50,000. So I don’t have to even say that it's expensive, because that would be just a waste of words. In the same price category there are Plasmas with much deeper blacks, but, that’s the only cinch that the Philips Cinema 21:9 has....

Philips Cinema 21:9 - 56 PFL 9954 H

Exclusive - currently the only TV in CinemaScope format; Rich connectivity with five HDMI inputs; Powerful sound; Heaps of multimedia functions, including YouTube access; Low power-consumption given the size of the screen

Screen format dictates a loss of sharpness for HDTV pictures wider than 16:9; Confusing aspect-ratio switching; Some obvious trailing effects; Relatively low contrast-ratio; Imperfect colors (even after calibration); Optimal picture only when viewed...

Philips 56PFL9954H Cinema 21:9 television

Welcome to the wonderful world of CinemaScope TV. With a good 50% of Blu-ray discs containing movies in CinemaScope 2.39:1 aspect, high-def fans still have to put up with black bars above and below the action. Until now, that is.

Despite minor criticisms, it's fair to say that the Cinema 21:9 provides an awesome experience that is initially stunning. It's a huge improvement on widescreen TV if you watch a lot of Blu-ray or DVD movies in the CinemaScope (or similar) format, and...

Philips Cinema 21:9 review

Widescreen is dead; long live Cinema 21:9. The Philips 56PFL9954H is a daring experiment in screen dimensions, designed to maximise the cinematic potential of hi-def discs while rewriting the rules on home entertainment.

Superb all-round performance;Endless features;Unique design

High price;Occasional black issues

Whether the 21:9 concept ultimately catches on or never develops into anything beyond a diverting curio remains to be seen, but for the time being this remarkable screen can consider its trail well and truly blazed.
