Poor Picture Quality

I have had this tv for almost a week, having purchased it based on the excellent reviews. I don't have any problem with the sound, but I find that the picture quality is extremely disappointing. There are four different ways to adjust the picture...

Oh my

Well my mother bought one almost 2 years ago and it still works fine. For that reason i bought the same TV, but i wasn't that lucky. Just 2 weeks later my tv has a thin vertical blue line that really bothers me.
