Philips TVs are back and looking very good

Lovely design ; Outstanding picture quality ; Superb audio quality ; Good multimedia support

Limited online services ; Complex to use ; Some 3D crosstalk ; Input lag slightly high

After seemingly forever, the negotiations between Philips and Chinese TV manufacturer TPV Technology are finally concluded, and the resulting TP Vision joint venture has at last borne serious new fruit in the shape of a big new Philips TV range.

Philips returns to the TV fray in spectacular fashion with this high-end LED offering.

A strong start for Philips' new TV range

Lovely styling ; Natural, balanced pictures ; Strong motion control with 2D ; Smart features

Can artificially lighten darker scenes ; Lacks the razor sharpness and fine detail of the best

This is clearly an accomplished set, and that bodes well for the TP Vision future of Philips. It’s a touch short of the very best, but this has made us very excited for the rest of the new range – especially next year’s 9000-series Moth Eye model…
