Philips 65PUS8901 Ambilux TV

At an IFA 2015 show rather short on spectacular bits of AV tech, Philips' first Ambilux TV shines out like a beacon in the night. Literally.

Philips 65PUS8901 AmbiLux 4K UHD TV review

Is this fusion of projection and 4K UHD really such a bright idea?

Amazing, room-filling lighting ; HDMI HDCP 2.2 compatibility ; 4K Netflix and Amazon Video ; Decent audio for its size

Buggy Android TV platform ; Awaiting firmware update for HDR ; Suffers from motion artefacts

With designer good looks, admirably bonkers lighting system and vibrant picture quality, Philips first AmbiLux UHD TV is something else.

Philips 65PUS8901 review

Pricey, but this Philips 4K TV is all about the Ambilux...

Bright and sharp picture ; Vibrant and dynamic colour palette ; Decent sound quality ; Easy to use ; Ambilux feature is immersive and fun

Black depth and subtlety is lacking ; Backlighting and motion stability issues ; Complicated menus ; No 3D ; Pricey

A pricey set with a vivid – albeit uncompetitive – picture, but the Ambilux feature is a highlight

Philips AmbiLux PUS8901 review: Projector-laden 4K TV is mad, but brilliant

When we first clapped eyes on Philips AmbiLux, back in 2014, we thought the engineers responsible had lost the plot. Sure, we've always had a soft spot for Philips Ambilight, the LED edging that casts puddles of coloured light onto surrounding walls,...

When it comes to sheer audio visual audacity, this mash-up of 4K UHD TV with blended projection technology takes some beating; you'll need a specific type of room to make the most of it, but once installed heads will turn; 4K image quality is good,...

Unsurprisingly, AmbiLux doesn't suit all content; tends to dwarf intense dramas and can distract when gaming; the Android Smart platform is also something of a Marmite connected experience, our sample was unrepentantly buggy; HDR support lacks - is...

Overall, there's much to like about AmbiLux. From a hardcore AV point of view, there are better ways to spend £4,000 if you want a leading 4K UHD TV, but that's not exactly the point here. This TV is a lifestyle proposition; a showman and focus point...

Philips 65PUS8901 review

A uniquely immersive 4K TV that's so much fun, it's Ambi-lievable

Ambilux is amazing ; Minimalist design is particularly swish ; 4K compatible with plenty of smarts

It’s expensive ; Cheaper rivals offer better picture quality ; Ambilux requires precise positioning

This Philips set is all about the awesome Ambilux. Extend your screen’s picture onto the wall for a unique – and surprisingly effective – TV experience.

Philips AmbiLux 65PUS8901 TV review - hands on

Incredible rear-firing projectors make films and games jump out of the screen on Philips' latest TV

The Ambilux is set to arrive in the UK and throughout Europe towards the end of the year. There's no word on cost yet, but it's looking highly likely it will fall towards the top end of Philips' price structure. Either way, we can't wait to get it home...

Philips 65PUS8901 Ambilux Ultra HD 4K TV

The Philips 65PUS8901 not only features an Ultra HD panel and Android TV but is also the first TV to include their Ambilux technology.
