42PFL7403D/F7

There's a lot to like about the Philips 42PFL7403D/F7. For a street price of $1100 (as of March 10, 2009), you get a 42-inch HDTV with USB-based multimedia capabilities. The only lower-priced 42-inch HDTV we've looked at recently, the Honeywell Altura...

Very good sound Multimedia playback via USB port

Disappointing picture quality Clumsy switching between inputs

Though the remote lacks backlighting and programming capabilities, it's quite good--small, light, and comfortable to hold. The buttons are well laid out, too. The remote includes picture-in-picture buttons, but the TV lacks picture-in-picture

Philips 42PFL7403D/F7 HDTV Review

Very good sound ; Multimedia playback via USB port

Disappointing picture quality ; Clumsy switching between inputs

The Philips 42PFL7403D/F7 has some nice touches for a low-cost HDTV, but it suffers in a crucial area: image quality.

Philips 42PFL7403D

The Philips 42PFL7403D is a solid 1080p television, which shows particular strengths with HD content, but you'll need to tweak it to get the best results.

Great styling ; 100Hz actually works ; Deep black levels ; Four HDMI ports ; Great HD images

Picture presets are awful ; Noise reduction ineffective ; Poor off-axis viewing

Conclusion Given that the two TVs look alike it's natural to compare the 7000 and the 9000 series directly to each other. Both are very capable TVs, but given the relatively small price difference, we think that 9000 is actually better value with its...

Unreliable product.

This is a significant disappointment for a long-time fan of Philips products. I am giving it a 2-star simply because of good image quality, albeit short-lived.

This television delivered an excellent image quality. It is a pleasure to watch HD content on this LCD

Unfortunately, the power supply board burned up after 2 years and 8 months of casual use. After researching the issue and having an experienced tech look into my dilemma, it seems that the board contains components designed to handle a lighter load of el

Outstanding

I bought this set over a year ago and I can't be more pleased. I love the picture, the sound and the convenience of hooking up all my components.

I love the ease of use for this tv. It has plenty of hookups and they are conveniently located. The picture color is outstanding and the sound is great. It has a stylish frame and you can watch from almost anywhere in the room

The menu setup screens aren't as user friendly as I would like but with a little effort you can find what you need

Flaky video settings and awful HDMI 3 (DVI) sound

$999 on two-day sale. Worth about half that. Looks great in store, but is really a piece of junk. The more I use it, the less I like it. Really a piece of junk...did I mention that?

Not broken on delivery. At times, movies look like I'm in the studio. Great sound for TV

No pass-through video...doesn't know how to autoswitch between HD and non-HD. Lousy sound from computer...like 25 percent of TV volume, even with PC volume at 100% (and I mean SoundBlaster). Auto video keeps adjusting

Great LCD Wide Screen and a good value.

As soon as you plug in & turn on, accurate step by step instructions to tune TV colors and tones to your preference. The colors are vibrant and has an impressive deep tone to black portions of the picture for an LCD. Movies, shows & sports all react...

Sharp picture, good color tones, deep blacks for an LCD, easy setup

Not as many output jacks as I would like, especially for audio

I found LCD TV to be one of the best that I have seen'

The price was very reasonable compared to other in the size. I RECOMMEND TO BUY IT IF YOU FIND ONE.

The picture quality, sound, and set were easy to setup. Right out of the box it worked perfectly. The picture from my Sony Blue Ray player looks like three D when used with the Philips 42PFL7403D

I have not found any cons after using the set for two weeks

No regrets on this purchase

I would recommend this TV, esp. for around $1200. I've had it for 4 months without any problems whatsoever.

Color and sound are amazing. Watching blu-ray discs on it is breath-taking. Pre-sets are great. Setting it up is very simple

You can only adjust one of the video settings (personal), but the other pre-sets are well set up
