Philips 52PFL9703 LCD TV

LCD TVs are commonly reviewed by us, and today is no different. Except for the fact that this model is larger than normal. It's a 52" LCD TV by Philips, and first things first; we had to lug our AV room's sofa back a good two feet, so as to accommodate...

We could get a vibrant contrast level by switching dynamic contras in the menu to medium, and also sharpness levels kept at half made the pic quite splendid. Though here, I would like to make one point: the gamma level of this TV is a little off normal...

Philips 47 PFL 9703 D

High motion clarity in movies; Built-in tuner for analog and digital terrestrial TV; Eye-friendly Ambilight system; Ambient-light sensor for brightness adjustment; Handy multimedia extras; Decent sound; Excellent tuner picture

Low contrast ratio; Outmoded menu with oversized pages; Navigation wheel on the remote control moves too freely; No authentic 24p playback

Thanks to an excellent, bright tuner-picture, sensible features, and relatively rich sound, the Philips is a great everyday TV. On the other hand, the low contrast ratio and lack of 24p-playback make the TV less suitable for the home-theater.

Philips 52 PFL 9703 D

Good contrast; Integrated ambient lighting system; Decent sound; USB and LAN connections

Picture quality is very dependent on viewing angle; Faulty 24p reproduction; The price

The Philips 52 PFL 9703 D is a solid offering, with a winning combination of interesting design, eye-catching "Ambilight", appealing colors, and high-quality brightness and contrast. Despite HD signal processing weaknesses, the Philips delivers a...

Philips 42PFL9703D

Philips' latest 42-inch LCD offers good picture quality and plenty of digital inputs in a design suited to modern decor. It's not perfect, however, w...

Good picture quality, four HDMI inputs

High price, 100Hz mode flickers, not many legacy inputs

It has all the right specifications, but an imperfect 100Hz mode and a lack of inputs for older devices stop the 42PFL903D being an easy choice.

Philips Cineos 42PFL9703D/10 42in LCD TV

Philips' latest picture processing engine joins forces with cutting edge LCD panel technology to spectacular effect!

In the 42PFL9703D/10, Philips has brought together its latest picture processing engine with a cutting edge wide-colour gamut LCD panel to deliver what is undeniably one of the best pictures we've yet seen from an LCD TV.

Philips Cineos 42PFL9703 review

This is the most impressive Philips TV we've seen for some time. The picture and sound quality are both excellent and the Ambilight is an improvement over the older two strip version. It does add to the movie experience, although perhaps not enough to...

Picture and sound quality ; Improved Ambilight ; Decent selection of inputs ; Attractive styling

Price ; Menus are a little ugly ; Remote control scroll wheel is a pain sometimes

In terms of picture quality, there isn't anything we can complain about. There are minor niggles with some aspects of the TV, but none are serious enough to be a problem. If you want a TV that matches this screen, you'll probably want to consider a...

Philips 42PFL9703D

We had high hopes for the Philips 42PFL9703D, but a poorly performing 100Hz mode and some set-up quirks means the TV isn't quite the Bravia killer we first thought.

Decent picture quality ; Good blacks and off-axis viewing ; Great design ; Four HDMI inputs

High price ; Set-up wizard can make picture worse ; 100Hz mode is poor ; Minimum of non-HDMI inputs

Though USB connections worked okay — despite the lack of play controls — it was trying to auto-connect to the CNET network that failed to give us joy. Granted, it's a complicated system, as workplaces tend to be, but the lack of advanced network...

Good performance overall but with a few niggling faults. And it should be a lot cheaper given the panel size

Philips 42PFL9703D

Upon receipt of TV plugged it in and got good audio but no video. Called Philips technical support, they tried but could not help. They told me that that was all they could do and the TV was "out of warranty". I returned the TV to Amazon for a refund...
