Philips 46 PFL 9704

The Philips 46 PFL 9704 TV is a Full HD, 46-inch LCD TV, available since late summer 2009 and currently selling from 2,500 GBP online.

Excellent motion clarity ; High contrast ratio ; Low power consumption ; Accurate 24p reproduction ; Great sound ; Rich multimedia capabilities

The operation is just plain awkward ; Local Dimming artefacts

Philips presents an impressive package: excellent features, sharp motion sequences, rich blacks, decent colours, excellent sound, and low power consumption. With these under its belt, the 46 PFL 9704 is easy to forgive for its Local Dimming artefacts...

Philips 52 PFL 9704

The Philips 52 PFL 9704 TV is a Full HD, 52-inch LCD TV. On the market in Europe from autumn 2009 for 3,200 Euros (around 2,900 GBP), the 52-inch model will not be available on the U.K. market. A smaller brother, the 46-inch 46 PFL 9704 is advertised...

The highest contrast we’ve ever measured ; Loads of multimedia functions ; High motion-clarity, accurate 24p ; Superb sound

Unnatural colours ; Artefacts from Local Dimming ; Not very user friendly

Wow, what a deep black! Philips’ new 52-incher will captivate home-cinema fans with near-perfect blacks and an extremely cinematic picture. But this Dutch LCD struggles with colour fidelity and suffers from side effects related to its Local Dimming...

Philips 40PFL9704 television review

With flatscreen TVs now a commodity market, finding a high-end set that represents the pinnacle of engineering is increasingly tricky – but Philips' latest LED set strives for just that.

Deep black, excellent speakers, fluid pictures

Some artefacts, over-processed digital TV, high price

With powerful speakers and fluid, contrast-heavy pictures, this 40-inch TV shows just what can be done to the flatscreen TV idea

Philips 40PFL9704 40in LED Backlit LCD TV

The Philips 40PFL9704 is the very definition of a premium TV.

Yet another advance the 40PFL9704 makes is the addition of 200Hz processing – or, to be more accurate, 100Hz processing plus a scanning backlight. This comes on top of the Perfect Natural Motion processing that forms a key part of Philips’ hugely...

European LCD-TV 2009-2010 -> Philips 46PFL9704H/12

Competition in the LCD display market is tough, but Philips once again offers a masterpiece for moving pictures. With its backlight now using 224 LED segments and local dimming, the 46PFL9704H/12 will amaze viewers with the deepest blacks ever, making...

Philips 46PFL9704

Particularly key is its use of direct LED backlighting with more than 200 separately controllable LED light clusters - an arrangement that has consistently produced the best LCD TV picture quality.

Capable of magnificent pictures, superb audio performer, great looking TV, massive feature count, class-leading multimedia features

It's very expensive, it doesn't have a Freeview HD tuner, and it takes quite a bit of effort to keep pictures looking their best
