Pioneer PDP-LX-508D

Nighttime scenes are rendered in pitch-blackness - an almost perfect black; Incredible color neutrality without a lot of tweaking; Judder-free and full resolution HDTV playback

Somewhat feeble presentation of bright scenes: limited brightness in daylight viewing; If the content cannot be displayed in widescreen, gray bars to the left and right of the picture distract from the main picture

This 50" plasma flat-panel TV has to be rated as one of the best (beginning of 2008). Pioneer has combined high contrast with exceptional color neutrality, brought about mainly by the factory adjusted presets. The single drawback is the limited...

Pioneer PDP-LX508D

â--Unquestionably the TVâ-'s most vital feature is its Kuro technology, which delivers revolutionary picture qualityâ--

Our experience with previous Pioneer KURO plasmas means we know the PDP-LX508D is going to be a cracker before we even switch it on. A more interesting question to ask is whether it's sufficiently better than Pioneer's 508XD - the comparatively-sized,...

Pioneer KURO PDP-LX508D 50in Plasma TV

If money's no object and you simply have to have the best 50in TV in town, then check out this impressive plasma screen.

There's no getting round the fact that the PDP-LX508D is seriously expensive by today's 50in TV standards. The single biggest issue I have with the screen is the fact that, awesome though it is, I'm not sure many people will easily be able to justify...

Pioneer PDP-LX608D review

Although the PDP-LX608D lacks the immediate impact of Pioneer's smaller plasmas due to a slight drop in brightness, the longer you live with it, the more you grow to love its stunning black levels, ultra-rich colours, dreamy motion handling and...

Excellent picture quality ; Connections galore ; Unusually helpful Blu-ray/HD DVD support

The picture's not especially bright ; One word you certainly can't associate with it is 'cheap

The only other 'problem' with the LX608D is simply its cost -- £4,900 is clearly beyond the reach of most of us

Expensive but extraordinary. If God watches the telly, he does it on one of these

Preview: Pioneer Kuro PDP-LX508G

With the gift-giving season just around the corner, pamper your sports-loving dad/hubby/wife with the action program-friendly Pioneer Kuro, which offers a 20,000:1 contrast and ghosting-free images. Just one catch. It's a cool S$14,999 for the 50-inch...

Class-leading blacks and color saturation; fluid motion reproduction; bassy and articulated loudspeakers; full 1080p24/50/60 video support; three HDMIs, onboard JPEG playback; extensive tweaking options; dedicated input buttons for remote

Fixed tabletop stand; extremely pricey; less-than-optimized PC display resolution

The Pioneer Kuro PDP-LX508G is the undisputable class leader in black level and color vibrancy. However, these attributes aren't twice as good as its peers to warrant the highly inflated pricing.

Pioneer PDP-LX508D

Once again Pioneer has reaffirmed its mastery of plasma picture quality. The Full-HD PDP-LX508D sets a new standard for that key benchmark of home cinema video performance: black level depth. To achieve this exceptional result, Pioneer has...

Pioneer PDP-LX508D Kuro

Pioneer PDP-LX508D Kuro is an 8th generation plasma screen made by Pioneer. Kuro means 'black' in Japanese. It has screen at 1270 mm with a digital tuner, and uses the Nicam sound system. Contrast ratio is at 20,000:1. Added features are DNR, Pure...

Spelling is important: Kuro is Pioneer’s range of premium plasma tellies, whereas kuru is an incurable brain disease caused by cannibalism. The one letter difference between this plasma and the plain old 508XD is less life-threatening, although no one...

Shell out the full retail price of this Kuro and you may well be reduced to surviving on human flesh (avoiding the spinal column and brain tissue will help you avoid kuru). The good news is that it’s getting older now so there are some good deals out...

The combined technological prowess of the globe couldn’t make a better television than this. Buy it, polish it and pamper it, but desecrate it with an episode of Holby City and we’ll be around with baseball bats.
