Toshiba ZF355 Series TV (40",52")

Should thin be in?

Thin frame, picture quality, three HDMI slots

Setup menu clunky, blue light on front

If you're looking for good performance with no frills, this is definitely worth checking out

Humax LGB-19DZT

Small screen, big noise

With enough connectivity do hook-up your PC, Xbox, DVD player, and PS3, whilst acting as both your TV and a decent radio and alarm, this could be the all-in-one device you've been looking for.

Toshiba REGZA 32CV505DG

Time for a new TV?

Considering the number of connections, the CV range gives you a big bang for your buck, especially at the small end. The design might not compete with some rivals, for example from Philips or Sony, but you do get a lot for your money.

Philips PFL9632 Series LCD TV (32",37",42",47",52")

Is this the best Philips TV yet?

Superb performance, dramatic impact from the ambilight, available dirt cheap (if you're lucky)

Lacks some important connectivity, absence of preset environment modes

The 47-inch screen from Philips? new Ambilight range is a superb display, leaving much of its competition in the LCD market in the shade

LG 42LF75 mit DVB-T

Worth the watch?

Despite some impressive audio performance, LG's new screen let us down a little on the video front and doesn't really work hard enough in terms of additional features to justify a recommendation over a number of capable rivals at a similar price point.

Humax LP32TDR1

- Humax has produced some of the more successful PVRs over the last year so it's no real surprise to see the name behind the feature-rich LP32-TDR1. This 32" LCD is most notable for the inclusion of a built in PVR sporting a generous 160GB hard drive ...

Impressive performance from the digital tuner, PVR integrates well, decent range of features

High definition and audio performance could be better, no twin-tuner capabilities for synchronised recording / time-shifting

Those choosy about performance might find the LP32 a little lacking, but in terms of offering a nice range of features for the average standard definition user it

Samsung LE-M87 Series LCD TV (32",37",40",46",52")

- We all like big don't we, big cars, big houses, so why not big TVs? Well that's what Samsung is hoping with its whopping 52-inch LCD television as apart of its Bordeaux range. But does it impress? We get watching to find out.

Size, screen, 3 HDMI slots

Poor broadcast picture quality really shows up, dust attracts to it like a fly to you know what

The M87 is a very good television let down by non HD quality signals

Evesham TV-930

- This small, 240 x 172 x 33mm with a visible display area of 199 x 119mm, 16:9 ratio LCD television weighs in at less than 1kg making it truly portable unlike most portable tellies.

Small, good picture quality, good looking hardware

Analogue tuner only, poor portable reception

A truly portable telly that only really works well indoors

Sharp LC-WD1E Series LCD TV (32",37",42",52")

- Sharp's new Aquous range falls well into the "future proof" category, assuming that people are ready to invest in 1080p screens for higher resolution video.

Superb, consistent picture quality, impressive audio from the surround speakers, beautiful design

The 52in on test is relatively expensive compared to smaller panels in the same range

If you can afford it and you're looking for an LCD this size, the Sharp puts you in a perfect position to take advantage of upcoming 1080p video while offering fantastic picture quality and a great all-round package

Acer AT4220

- In the past Acer has been known more for its success in the notebook and LCD market than with LCD TVs, but a new range looks to offer a desirable combination of both value and quality.

Great picture quality, very usable, good range of connectivity, slimline build

No 1080p support, not a lot of extras but at this price we can't complain

A 42 inch LCD TV for under £1000 that actually performs, this is a great budget screen for those who want a lot for a little
