Samsung PN59D7000

Earlier this year we called Samsung's most expensive plasma TV, the PND8000 series, the "Best overall TV of 2011 (so far)." Now that we've tested its less expensive brother, the PND7000 series reviewed here, that designation isn't as certain. Sure the...

The Samsung PND7000 series has outstanding overall picture quality, with excellent black-level performance and extremely accurate color. The screen can handle bright rooms well and exhibits the nearly perfect screen uniformity of plasma. Key features...

The relatively expensive PND7000 cannot produce full shadow detail or proper 1080p/24 cadence without sacrificing some black-level performance. Smart Hub lacks Amazon Instant, its search is next to useless, and its interface can be cluttered and...

With picture quality on par with the best TVs we've ever tested, the Samsung PND7000 plasma represents an excellent value for videophiles who don't demand to own the top of the line.

Samsung PN59D7000

The Samsung PN59D7000 ($2,599 MSRP) is a stunning, high-end plasma TV fashioned by Samsung for 2011. It has 59 inches of great, 1080p picture quality, and as a second-generation plasma, it handles 3D reasonably well. Replete with integrated WiFi and a...

Great color fidelity ; Impressive motion and resolution scaling ; Great contrast, and excellent gamma

Improved 3D, but that’s not saying much

The high-end Samsung PN59D7000 1080p plasma TV ($2,599 MSRP) impressed us with its picture quality, which has improved brightness and contrast ratio over other plasmas. It is extremely color-accurate, and does an excellent job with motion. We’re not in...

"Amazing picture quality diminished by loud buzzing."

NOTE: The brightness fluctuations that people complain about were pretty distracting, but there is a (possibly warranty-voiding) fix available if you search on AVS Forum and it works perfectly. It fixed my issues and made the only con the buzzing.

-AMAZING picture quality

-The BUZZING! I have sensitive hearing and on my set the buzzing was so high-pitched that even with the TV at volume 15-20 I could hear the buzzing from 10' away. I'm returning this TV, I just can't stand the distracting hiss emanating from it.

"Fantastic quality, picture and hardware alike"

This TV is replacing an older unit. It's amazingly nice, really. The depths of the blacks is astoundingly nice, the colors are vibrant, and there are enough knobs to tune the picture to suit even the pickiest TV watcher.

Easy setup, dark as night blacks, excellent picture quality, good input selection, quite passable audio.

Text entry methods change. Sometimes it's an on-screen keyboard, other times it's very frustrating telephone-style entry.

"BEST TV EVER FOR THE PRICE!!"

THIS TV IS GREAT!!!!! I've had this TV now for about a month and it is Fantastic, and the word fantastic is not something I just toss around freely. The picture quality after calibration is amazing (I used the settings found on C-Net) and I say for the...

Great Picture, Great Price, Great Size (59")

Slight buzz and the Smart part of the TV is not so great

"Impossible to Watch"

I read all the warnings around "brightness pops" but I didn't know what that exactly was. I went and purchased it anyway since CNET had rated top 5 of 2011. How could they not catch this? This isn't a con, it's a deal-breaker. I literally cannot watch...

None. The brightness pops are a deal-breaker. Not possible to watch anything without create distraction.

volume buzzing. brightens pops.

"Fantastic TV!"

I did a lot of research before I jumped on this television. I read about all the issues that many of the early purchasers of this set had. These included the screen peeling issue as well as brightness pops and buzzing from the panel. I waited until...

Beautiful Color and Brightness

None that I can report.
