Samsung PN64E8000

While OLED technology is grabbing headlines, Samsung is also quietly updating their plasma lineup with the PNE80000, a Smart TV that features new apps, gesture and voice control, facial recognition and an improved panel. No word on pricing, though...

Improved plasma panel promises better color ; Voice and gesture control ; Cloud connectivity and a new suite of apps

Could be too smart for some consumers

Though the Samsung PN64E8000 has a brand new panel that supposedly improves color and contrast, the most heavily-advertised improvement to Samsung’s flagship plasma was a complement of connectivity and user control features. New apps take advantage of...

Samsung PS64E8000

It's big, it's bold, and it's also rather good.

Excellent 2D and 3D pictures ; Lots of online video services ; Good value

Tricky gesture and voice control options ; Pictures not as bright as LCD ones ; Minor skin tone flaws

Despite all the niggles, though, Samsung’s Smart TV platform still impresses overall thanks to the impressive amount of video streaming services it carries - these being by far the most useful things on any Smart TV platform.

Samsung PS64E8000

As smart as smart TV gets; delivers clean, sharp pictures but sound is average

Super-smart, futuristic TV; clean and sharp pictures; punchy colour balance

Average sound; black levels could be better

The picture is a smidge off the pace of the best in some areas, but if you're looking for the ultimate in design, features and future-proof cleverness in your TV, then it’s hard to recommend looking elsewhere.

Great TV! I love it

There are so many features in this TV that its hard to review. The motion sensorvoice controlwebcam all work as advertised, but I think theyre fairly gimmicky. I like using a remote instead. Its faster. The app store, however, is great. I really like...

Buy good cables

kk99 That is obviously a cable issue and not the TV's fault. Buy better cables with more shielding and the dark bands will go away. You will see dark bands extending like that on any display technology when using bad cables

not pleased

continue... now, even though those were much more noticeable on a PC, they exist when watching TV... but since the image moves all the time and things aren't as Black/White for long... they aren't as apparent. But I can notice the band if looking at...

Samsung *did* make an effort to accomodate me... However

Very disappointed with the TV! I purchased this TV as part of a new Home Theater I was building in my living room. One of the things I really wanted to do in my new setup was to hookup a HTPC... so, as part of the new toys, I also built a PC...

Wonderful TV

This 64" replaced my Panny 50" that was about 7 years old. Very wonderful and dynamic picture, though I was hoping to be more overwhelmed by the picture quality. CNET gave this set a very high review, calling it the TV of the year for 2011, so I...

I don't really care for the business of the "SMART HUB" on this TV. We haven't tried ordering movies yet through this application, though we can easily access our Netflix account without the need for a separate device (Roku, Wii, etc. to access Netflix)
