Samsung PN64E550

Panasonic and Samsung plasma TVs have run very close in our comparisons this year, with a slight advantage in picture quality going to team Panasonic, and a slight features advantage to camp Samsung. That's again the case in the midrange category,...

The Samsung PNE550 plasma TV is an excellent value for this level of performance and features. Its picture quality is anchored by solid black levels, accurate color, and perfect off-angle viewing and uniformity. It boasts the industry's most capable...

The image of the Samsung PNE550 washes out significantly in normal room lighting. It can't match the black-level performance of the best like-priced plasmas. Its 3D performance is mediocre and the glasses feel cheap. The PNE550 also uses significantly...

While not quite the best in its class, the Samsung PNE550 plasma still merits a look with its very good picture quality, sophisticated Smart TV platform, and attractive price.

Samsung PN64E8000

The Samsung PNE8000 is easily the most full-featured plasma TV on the market; no other can touch its sheer doodad-ification. It's the opposite of a " dumb monitor, " building in not only the most app-happy Smart TV suite available, but also voice and...

The Samsung PNE8000 series exhibited outstanding overall picture quality, characterized by exceedingly deep black levels, accurate colors, superb video processing, and very good 3D. Unlike LCDs, as a plasma TV it has superb off-angle and uniformity...

Samsung charges too much for extra features that are largely unnecessary and poorly implemented. Its picture delivers slightly worse shadow detail and bright-room performance than some competitive plasmas, and its maximum light output is somewhat dim.

The expensive Samsung PNE8000 series comes through with stellar picture quality, but its main appeal is to people who crave the latest gadgetry in their plasma TV.

Samsung PN64E8000

While OLED technology is grabbing headlines, Samsung is also quietly updating their plasma lineup with the PNE80000, a Smart TV that features new apps, gesture and voice control, facial recognition and an improved panel. No word on pricing, though...

Improved plasma panel promises better color ; Voice and gesture control ; Cloud connectivity and a new suite of apps

Could be too smart for some consumers

Though the Samsung PN64E8000 has a brand new panel that supposedly improves color and contrast, the most heavily-advertised improvement to Samsung’s flagship plasma was a complement of connectivity and user control features. New apps take advantage of...

"Poor Workmanship and designed to fail."

It appears Samsung TVs have no quality control (other than the consumer being stuck with a defective product, so if you got a good one, you are very lucky, but I suspect you will have problems at some point). Right out of the factory sealed box, my...

U-Tube is worth the slow painstaking process to get to.

Poor quality control, terrible customer service, if you get stuck with a bad one, like me, you are SOL. Problem appears to be with all high end Samsung TVs.

"What an amazing TV!"

My dad has this same model from two years ago and it looks so much better than that one. It's huge, it looks classy, the picture is really sharp. The factory settings seem to be a little dark and I haven't calibrated it yet, but overall I'm very happy...

Amazing picture quality, the 3D performs great, the apps are better than I expected, and it has more features than I've been able to fully test out. My last TV was a 50" 1080i DLP with DVI, this is just miles beyond it. Best looking video games ever.

When people on screen say "hi", my TV thinks I'm talking to it. I just can't see myself using that or the gestures. It's kind of dumb. The registration process is way easier with a PC. It was missing 4 screws for the base! Why two remotes?
