Samsung PN50B850

Striking design with 1.2 inch-thick panel; reproduces deep black levels; accurate color with superb saturation, properly handles 1080p/24 sources; extensive feature set with Yahoo widgets, network streaming and built-in content; solid connectivity with...

More expensive than thicker plasma HDTVs; no S-Video inputs.

With picture quality that matches its less expensive brother but not the best of the stiff competition, the main appeal of the Samsung PNB850/860 series is based on its sleek, ultrathin panel.

Samsung PN50B850

The term "flat-screen television" has been used to describe any TV with a screen that isn't curved like a classic tube TV. The Samsung PN50B850 ($2,299.99 list) 1080p plasma, however, is a true "flat screen": At only 1.2 inches, it's the thinnest...

Thin panel design. Excellent color. Very good SD picture quality. Energy efficient. Tons of media features

Below-average picture contrast in a dark environment. Some white-balance inconsistencies. No de-judder feature

The Samsung PN50B850 packs great picture quality and numerous network multimedia features into a super-thin design.

Samsung PN50B850 Review

In terms of performance, Samsung PN50B850 is on the same level with the models from the previous 650 series from the same company. One would wonder why spend more on this 50 inch plasma TV, if the performance is the same, but it would only mean that...

Good black levels (improved compared to last year) ; Highly accurate colors (better than Panasonic models) ; Solid video processing ; Solid standard definition processing

No S-video input ; Relatively expensive, being a slim model ; Though anti-glare performance is good, other models are better

As mentioned earlier, there is not much improvement over the 650 series from Samsung, when we talk about these models from the top of the line series. There are even tests that show that the black levels on 650 models are a tad better than on Samsung...

Samsung Series 8 (PS50B850) plasma television

The Samsung Series 8 (PS50B850) is a fantastic 50in plasma television. Along with the usual range of in-built multimedia features, plenty of inputs an...

Great contrast, super-thin design, great motion handling, decent power consumption for a plasma

Samsung's Series 8 (PS50B850) plasma television is a brilliant product. Almost-peerless picture quality, a great design and a range of integrated features make it yet another new Samsung TV we heartily recommend. You do pay for the privilege, but...

Samsung PS50B850

The Samsung PS50B850 is an attractively slim plasma TV that offers all the latest bells and whistles with good picture quality to boot.

Clean, sharp visuals ; Good blacks and natural colours ; YouTube playback ; DLNA network multimedia streaming ; Wi-Fi-ready ; Backlit remote ; Ultraslim, attractive design

Bezel rattles with strong bass ; Tight port placement incompatible with thick cables ; Stain magnet and scratch-prone ; Mismatched metal stand ; Slight buzzing noise

If you're willing to overlook the sound quality and the soft buzzing of the set in operation, the AU$4299 PS50B850 is good value for money. Unfortunately, it's still not a Kuro killer.

Samsung PS50 B850 Plasma TV

This is a 50 inch monster, that because of its underlying plasma screen technology, is sizeable. It isn't ideal for wall mounting unless you have a particularly big area to cover, although it does look good, however you choose to place it.

Samsung B850

Samsung PS50B850 is one of the best looking Samsung TVs today. Even though it's huge B850 is elegant because of the discreet and sharp lines.

Picture quality; Colour reproduction; Build quality & Functionality; HDTV and SD

Out-of-box settings; Loudspeakers; Minor phosphor trailing; Minor image retention

B850 impresses us! Samsung has taken a big step forward with the B850 series, which has stunning picture quality. The “Out-of-box” picture quality is mediocre, but after some minor actions B850 can achieve beautiful picture quality, supported by good...

Samsung Series 8 PS50B850

The series 8 Plasma from Samsung is a remarkable panel. It isn't perfect but it is about as perfect as Plasma has gotten thus far.

Excellent image quality, Feature packed, Ultra thin, Attractive design, Great speakers

Slight Phosphor Lag but not a problem for most people

Consumer review by:

A near-perfect TV.

Amazing TV. At around $1200 its hard to find anything better. Did a side-by-side comparison between various Sony, LG, Panasonic, Toshiba TVs at the store, This one was hands down better than the others.

Great picture. Great picture. Great look. Did I mention great picture

Internet widgets could be improved

The Best. Simply, the best. LED has nothing on this TV.

The best TV i have ever seen. The sytling is incredible, not much on glare, and just overall phenominal picture quality. Since all Samsung ultra-thin displays have terrible speakers I didn't expect much and was impressed or dissapointed with the sound....

EVERYTHING!? Picture!!! Styling, just about everything. The price is a major plus! At the time of this review Sears has this TV for $1399

Poor sound, but most TV's nowadays need a sound bar or HTIB anyway
