Product Specifications

No TV brings you closer to life than Samsung's new Tantus LCD. Powered by Samsung's patented Tantus LCD Optical System, this fully digital, high-definition display can deliver crisp, closer-to-life 720P images that compete with the biggest home theater systems. Yet, at only 80 lbs. and less than 18" deep, it's light and thin enough to fit anywhere you'd put a standard size TV. The Tantus LCD also brings you closer to the action with extensive convergence capabilities. You can use it for computer applications, video games, DVD, satellite receivers, HDTV decoders, and much more. The 50" 16: 9 wide screen display is the optimum format for viewing DVD and DTV sources. The wide screen display allows every nuance of the director's picture to be revealed without distortion. Since all true HDTV sources are 16: 9 aspect ratio, the HLK506W is able to use its full resolution to display these detailed pictures. HD Component Video Input permits connection of an external DTV source, including the Samsung SIR-series integrated DTV receiver/decoders. The unique I-Point remote included with the SIR-series IRDs seamlessly operates all essential functions of the HLK506W, making the transition to receiving digital broadcasts a snap. This input permits the flexibility to receive any digital broadcast whether from terrestrial broadcasts, cable systems or satellite receivers. Samsung Tantus LCD Optical System is the driver behind high performance and TV's overall lightweight and thinness. Powered by a 100-watt high pressure mercury vapor light source, an 11 element lens design, 3 exclusive .76" postage stamp sized ferro-electric LCD panels, Samsung's Tantus LCD sets display 2.76 million color pixels for a truly high quality, closer to "life-like" picture. Three LCD high-resolution panels display a bright clear high-definition picture. The postage stamp size Tantus LCD panels virtually eliminate convergence worries, while simultaneously providing maximum brightness and "closer to life" images and noticeably sharper display of text information. NTSC to 720P up-conversion system takes the interlaced analog input signal and converts it to a sharper, clearer 720-line progressive scan. This makes analog TV look smoother and sharper which enhances the viewing TV experience on analog sources. Advanced Translucent On-Screen Display was developed in the United States using multiple consumer focus groups. This research clearly indicated that consumers disliked displays which block the picture, yet wanted the largest possible icons and text for ease of use. Once again taking advantage of proprietary Samsung technology, the engineers developed a system that allows the viewer to see the video through the on-screen display achieving superb legibility while not obscuring the picture. Internal Dolby Pro-Logic Decoder System precisely decodes the Dolby Surround signals available on many videotapes, DVD discs and MTS Stereo Broadcasts. An internal amplifier system and discrete stereo speaker system handle the Left and Right channels. Line output terminals are provided for the Left Surround, Right Surround and Center channel signals. Using these terminals, the simple addition of powered Rear speakers and Center speakers creates a complete 5-channel surround system. Dolby Surround Analog L/R Audio Outputs provide a simple connection to an external Stereo or Home Theatre receiver. These signals contain the surround and center channel signals for conversion in Dolby Pro-Logic surround receivers. Flexible Sound System offers simple independent control of L/R Balance, Center Volume, Surround Delay Time and Dynamic Range Control. Listening mode options are also included, and the Smart Set-Up System identifies which connections are in use, ensuring the user settings are compatible with the connected components.
