Samsung LE-46 F 71 B

Full HD resolution; The universal card reader is great for digital photographers; Comes with a swivel stand

The built-in receiver only accepts analog cable TV; The highly reflective casing; No S-Video compatible Scart sockets

It's hard to think of an LCD TV that's more attractive

Picture quality is good, Decent price

No digital tuner

We also appreciated the lack of motion smearing evident during the film's action scenes and kinetic camera work, and the way the picture retains its qualities even if watched from a very wide viewing angle

Samsung LE40F71B 40in LCD TV

Samsung has finally jumped on the Full HD bandwagon, but how does its first attempt at a 1,920 x 1,080 screen measure up?

This matters because ‘overscanning’ a picture means pushing the extremities of it off the screen to hide any ‘mess’ a broadcaster or DVD masterer might have left around the edges. But if you push the edges of a 1920x1080 high definition picture off the...

This gorgeous 1080p TV is a class act at a decent price, and it's well-specced too

The Samsung’s great to look at and works brilliantly with HD content. Add in that tempting price tag, and it's clearly a great buy

Samsung LE46F71BX review

Samsung's LE46F71BX is a 'Full HD' display designed for watching high-definition sources using all formats, including the latest 1080p. If you want to see Blu-ray at its best, then this is one of the more affordable models on the market, but...

1080p resolution ; Seamless design ; Hi-def connectivity ; Photo and MP3 playback ; Usability ; Exceptional hi-def performance

Single RGB input ; No integrated Freeview tuner ; Average standard-definition performance and sound

If you're a high-definition fan prepared to sacrifice standard performance, then this screen won't disappoint, but its ordinary all-round ability could be better

Samsung LE-40F71B

For a manufacturer that prides itself on being at the vanguard of new technology, it's surprising that Samsung has only just got round to shipping a Full HD LCD TV - the 40in LE-40F71B

Above-average connections, Accepts 1080p, Excellent colour

No digital tuner, Over-zealous factory settings

Not quite the best LCD in its class but a decent statement of intent from Samsung

Samsung LE40F71BX Review - 40-inch Full HD LCD TV

Samsung has joined the 1080p revolution with the top of the range F71 series, promising to deliver the latest LCD technology at an affordable price. With the widely advertised Digital Natural Image Engine, wide viewing angles and XWCG – CCFL color...

Good value ; 1080p capable display ; 1080p input via HDMI, Component, VGA ; 9-in-2 multi-memory card slot / USB / PictBridge ; Viewing angles ; Low digital noise on image ; Sharp images with 1:1 pixel mapping (tested on VGA) ; 10 bit processing ;...

Average black level with red tint ; Black level fluctuation due to dynamic dimming (can be turned off from service menu) ; Gamma curve is distorted by processing (can be turned off from service menu) ; Poor audio ; Inaccurate color decoding ; PC...

The Samsung F71 series gives excellent value for money despite some limitations. For example, you can get a better picture if you have access to the service menu and turn off some of its processing. However, we strongly discourage this if you even have...
