Samsung LN40D630

With the LN40D630 ($799 MSRP), what you see is what you get: no internet features, no 3D imaging, just a display with some connectivity in the back, one that happens to be quite good. This may be exactly what some consumers have been searching for, but...

Strong contrast ratio ; Solid color performance

Lacks detail in black and white values ; Not much added to a cheaper Samsung model

Samsung produced some of the most feature-packed televisions in 2011, and from what we saw at CES, they have no intention of slowing down in 2012. The LN40D630 ($799 MSRP) is a much more basic television from their 2011 line. You won’t find any...

Samsung LN40D630

One of the most common requests we hear at CNET is for a TV that has good picture quality "without all that extra crap" (or words to that effect). Said extras included on many TVs these days include Internet connectivity and 3D, as well as an LED...

The Samsung LND630 series exhibited very good picture quality, with relatively deep black levels, accurate color in bright areas and excellent video processing with proper handling of 1080p/24 sources. Its matte screen works well in bright lighting and...

Shadow detail on the LND630 series was somewhat murky, its dark areas tinged were tinged a bit blue, and the benefits of 120Hz difficult to discern. A few slightly more expensive models have much better feature selections.

With image quality every bit as good as many expensive LED models, the Samsung LND630 is a great choice for a no-frills LCD TV.

"Great Digital but poor analog Cable Picture"

I picked this TV based on past experience with Samsung products and the many combination of input jacks. I didn't realize just how much picture I was missing with the old analog TV. If you watch analog cable TV you will be disappointed but digital...

Excellent picture quality on digital TV or HDMI. 4 HDMI, 2 composite video,USB and PC inputs. stereo analog audio out mini jack or optical. Many picture adjustment controls. Audio quality of TV speakers is OK for the small speaker size but not great.

Algorithm for converting analog cable channels is very poor with lots of ghosting, blurring and smearing of the picture. No coaxial digital audio output. The TV volume control does not control the level of the volume on the analog audio output.

"Easy to set up, fabulous picture, right out of the box."

If you're looking for a great TV at a great price, that's easy to set up, this is your best choice. Lots of input choices, well thought out layout. Samsung is clearly the new Sony in terms of quality and reliability.

"Spctacular image quality! Great Price ($600 BestBuy)"

I'm astounded at the progress in TV picture quality over just 3 years. Calibrate / adjust this TV using the best settings found on the web, and then tweak them according to your own eyes and environment. The picture quality is stunning. On the down...

Spectacular image quality (after appropriate set-up). Sound is fine, but with a picture this good you might consider some kind of surround sound. Matte Glass image (YES!) so no unwanted reflections. Far superior to 3 year old Sony Bravia it replaced.

Picture looked REALLY crappy out of the box. Absolutely go to the web, and use the settings found on the forum. (Blacks will still need to be darker, dynamic contrast should be "low", and perhaps other settings to your own taste.)

Great TV except for the part where it broke after 3 mos

I feel embarrassed for having recommended this very TV to several friends and family members since purchasing it. One friend actually purchased the next size smaller (32 inch? 38?) on our recommendation a few weeks ago. After this incident, I,like the...

I really liked this TV. Great picture quality, beautiful style, very easy to use menu and remote control. The hookup ports at the back are numerous and easy to figure out. I can't say enough about the menu - it is very user friendly, logical, and it is ev

As reported by other owners of this model, the sound is a bit weak. The biggest (and only other) con, however, is the fact that my TV no longer works after only 3 months. I purchased the TV new from Best Buy in June. Recently it made a loud cracking/simul

Samsung LCD LN40D630 Break's after 2 week's of use

If they can finally make it work an it just append to be a bad luck, I will be happy after all but the way I have been treated by Brault et Martineau, the store where I've purchased the television, and Samsung.... I don't think I would recommend it to...

Great image... when it work t, and all share is not to bad except for multi language movies it only plays the english version of the movie for some reasons. (I'm french from Quebec)

It broke after 2 week's of use (A lemon, **** happens) and Samsung Customer service refuse to replace it with a new one (2 weeks old) and told me that I have to wait 1 week before I can get the visit of a technician. To that add the 48 hours of testing t
