LN55A950

The Samsung LN55A950 is the first LCD TV we've tested with LED backlighting. But LED backlighting doesn't come cheap. The LN55A950's $4500 street price (as of April 16, 2009) puts it in a different league from the other TVs that PC World normally...

Ethernet connection for Web services Fantastic remote control; great sound

Very expensive. Picture-in-picture doesn't work well

The menus are attractive and readable, though they do take up a lot of screen real estate. The main menu includes useful explanations. Navigation is normally easy but occasionally confusing. A smaller Quick Menu offers immediate access to commonly...

Samsung LN55A950 HDTV Review

Ethernet connection for Web services ; Fantastic remote control; great sound

Very expensive ; Picture-in-picture doesn't work well

The LED-backlit Samsung LN55A90 produces a very good picture, and this HDTV has an ethernet connection, too.

Samsung LNA950 review: Samsung LNA950

Samsung LNA950

Produced exceedingly deep black levels for an LCD TV; extremely accurate color; solid video processing; extensive interactive functionality; scads of picture controls; superb connectivity with four HDMI and one PC input; attractive, understated design.

Very expensive; picture washes out and discolors from off-angle; some blooming effects in high-contrast scenes; screen reflects ambient light.

Samsung's LED-backlit LN46A950 represents the peak of flat-panel LCD TV performance and picture quality, with a price to match.

Samsung LN55A950

TV manufacturers have just started turning to light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as a way to further enhance colors and picture quality on LCD HDTVs, which have previously been limited by the color gamut of traditional fluorescent backlighting. The Samsung...

Excellent energy efficiency. Superb picture contrast. Good color accuracy.

Limited viewing sweet spot. Some advanced picture controls are ineffective. Reflective screen surface.

The Samsung LN55A950 is an impressive showcase of modern LCD technology, thanks to its LED backlighting and energy efficiency. It also delivers the best picture quality we've seen (so far) among LED-backlit LCDs.

Samsung LN55A950

In conclusion, the LN55A950 performs quite well given the new technology it contains. If you just have to have the newest technology to hit the market, and don't mind sacrificing some of your viewing angle to get it, then the LN55A950 may be the way to...

Samsung LN46A950 LCD HDTV Reviewed

LED backlight systems with local dimming are the greatest thing to happen to LCDs, well, ever. The 46-inch LN46A950 from Samsung has that, plus 120Hz technology, four HDMI inputs, DLNA certification, a high-contrast screen, and more. Adrienne Maxwell...

The local-dimming LED backlight system allows this LCD to produce better blacks and have a better overall contrast than many traditional LCD TVs ; The second-generation LED models add Auto Motion Plus 120Hz technology, which effectively reduces motion...

The Ultra Clear Panel makes reflected images more visible (even more so than many plasmas), which can be distracting when trying to watcher dark content in a very bright room ; Because of the LED technology, this TV is more expensive than many other...

The LN46A950 represents the finest that Samsung has to offer in the LCD realm, but its excellent performance and full complement of features will cost you. That said, this 46-inch model is less expensive than the similarly sized LED model from Sony,...
