Samsung PN63C8000

Ever since we tested the Panasonic TC-PVT25 series in June, we've been itching to compare it directly with Samsung's flagship 3D-compatible plasma HDTV for 2010. After finally getting the chance to review the Samsung PNC8000 series--the odds-on...

Excellent black-level performance; accurate color overall; properly handles 1080p/24 sources; excellent bright-room image for a plasma; numerous picture controls and tweaks; sleek styling with inch-deep panel; superb streaming and widget content via...

Less energy-efficient than LCD models; duplication of Apps and widgets can be confusing; 1080p/24 mode causes loss in black level performance; optional dejudder processing introduces artifacts; does not include 3D glasses; terrible remote.

Samsung's PNC8000 series plasma TV produces one of the highest-quality pictures we've tested this year in both 2D and 3D modes, yet costs less than its direct competition.

Samsung PN58C8000 Review – 58-inch Plasma HDTV

The Samsung PN58C8000 is a 58” Plasma HDTV model. This is a 3D set, and is the 58” model grouped into the Samsung Class 8000 Series, which is equipped with 1080p.

There are also a few smaller, yet still equally worthy, features. The AllShare DLNA Networking feature, for instance, makes it so you can sync a PC wirelessly, as well as additional digital products, to your TV. This then gives you complete screen play...

The package does not include 3D glasses ; The PN58C8000 does not have integrated WiFi ; Plasma TVs generally aren't as bright as LCDs and therefore aren't the best choice for a really bright room ; It lacks an IR or RS-232 port

With an MSRP of $2,999.99 and a street price around $2,500, the PN58C8000 is one of the most economical 3D-capable flat panels you can buy in the 55-inch-plus category (and that's without the free 3D Starter Kit). It's less expensive than most...

"Enjoy the picture while it lasts - it won't."

I bought this TV in January of 2011 and was very pleased with it. About a year into life it started to develop small fields of pink/purple dots that I thought might be signal but it was degenerative. About 1.5 years into life I called Samsung and they...

Great display when new.

Diffusion (pink/purple pixelation on light backgrounds) will kill the experience in about a year plus/minus six months.

"Great picture quality, but poor 3D/panel failed in 1 yr"

I shopped very carefully for this TV, researched many reviews and looked in the store at a handful that seemed to be the best from the reviews, and best value. This TV had the best in-store picture hands down. Out of the box, the TV performed quite...

Picture quality was fantastic when the product was received, with rich color and great black/contrast. Great while it lasted.

The 3D quality is poor, intermittent failure requiring active 3D glasses to be turned off and on to reset. Panel failed twice in 2 years.

"Great while lasted but 6 months after purchase it Broke"

6 months after purchasing, TV made a large pop and that was it. AND THEY WON'T HONOR THEIR WARRANTY!! Why isn't CNET or others reporting more on companies that don't stand behind their products? Search on "Samsung Plasma pop" and look at all the posts...

Awesome picutre, bright, great web apps

Apparently Samsung TVs are very fragile.

Product Specifications

The Samsung PN-C8000 Series Plasma TV is Samsung's nicest plasma TV. In addition to having a wide selection of features, including 3D support, it has great picture quality. It has a "TruBlack" filter, which supposedly filters out ambient light that would otherwise be reflected, making the blacks look even darker, and the overall picture much better. This was one of the first TVs to introduce dejudder processing, which is another nice feature. It has a 2D to 3D conversion system, which is a fairly rare feature found only on some of the more expensive 3D TVs. Being a plasma TV, this should have better overall picture quality than an LCD, and the unique black filter might make it possible to use this in brightly lit rooms, which was previously impossible with the highly reflective plasmas. This is a great high-end TV, and it has a great picture.
