Is Samsung's best 2012 LED TV worth the price?

The UNES8000 packs more features than ever into its ultraslim chassis, but its picture quality falls short of its flagship promise.

The beautifully thin ; seems to have come from a year or two in the future. Its massive feature set includes a touch-pad remote, IR blaster, four pairs of 3D glasses, motion and voice command, and the industry's most capable Smart TV platform. Its...

Lighter black levels and imperfect screen uniformity hamper its picture significantly, especially for such an expensive TV. Samsung charges too much for extra features that are largely unnecessary and poorly implemented.

Although it hits plenty of high points, the Samsung UNES8000 LED TV cannot ultimately justify its high price.

Samsung UN46ES8000F

With its voice- and motion-controlled interface, Samsung's ES8000F series does a lot to advance HDTV design, but some of the new features aren't quite ready for prime time.

Ambitious user interface. Beautiful design. Excellent white and black levels. Accurate color. Comes with 3D glasses.

Voice, motion, and touchpad controls are unreliable. Screen shows significant light bloom on the edges. Only three HDMI ports.

The camera also allows gesture controls from the user. By waving your hand in front of the screen, a cursor appears that you can control with your motions. Making a fist "clicks" the cursor, letting you navigate the menus and Web pages. Like the voice...

This is Samsung's latest Smart TV, the UN55ES8000F. This is a rather large upgrade in terms of both the hardware and software. Samsung reduced the bezel to around 1/2" in thickness and updated the OS.
