Sharp LC-32D40U

Excellent color quality. Two HDMI inputs. Backlit remote.

Slow film-cadence detection. No DVI/VGA video input for use with a PC. No electronic programming guide (EPG).

The LC-32D40U isn't the least expensive 32-inch LCD HDTV out there, but its superior image quality makes it worth every penny.

Sharp LC-D40U review:

intro As competition among flat-panel HDTVs intensifies, traditional manufacturers such as Sharp have to scramble to lower prices or lose sales to cheaper, less recognizable brands. Sharp's LC-37D40U, a 37-inch LCD-based HD TV, exemplifies that trend,...

Able to reproduce relatively deep blacks; numerous picture adjustments; two HDMI and two component-video inputs; attractive all-black styling.

Color decoding pushes red and de-emphasizes green; no PC input or picture-in-picture; can't change aspect ratio modes with HD sources.

The Sharp LC-37D40U delivers some of the deepest blacks and very good overall image quality for an LCD, making it worth the extra dough for home-theater fans.

Sharp AQUOS LC-37D40U LCD

At A Glance: Sharp's 37" AQUOS is balanced from top to bottom, offering a set of features that leaves little to be desired and well-rounded performance to match. The image detail was tack-Sharp, the blacks were the best we've ever seen from an LCD flat...

Sharp, arguably the leader in the LCD television industry, recently began offering what may well be one of the most attractive LCD sets around—and we're not just talking about its looks.

Sharp LC-37D40U LCD HDTV Television

The flat form factor may be in, but flat panels are not necessarily superior in all respects. CRTs still do some things better than any current digital display technology. But CRTs aren't as sharp or bright as flat panels, and they're big and heavy....

Sharp LC-37D40U LCD HDTV Television

There's a revolution happening in high-definition televisions. Plasma and LCD flat panel displays are on the verge of dominating the market. CRTs still sell in higher numbers, but primarily in smaller and cheaper models. Once you get much over $1000...

Excellent color when adjusted, with natural foliage and flesh tones

Black level and shadow detail, as in other LCD displays we've tested, remain inferior to the best from other technologies
