Sharp LC-60LE636E review

As you'd expect – given that we're called Home Cinema Choice – we just love really big flatscreens. We'd think nothing of knocking through a living room wall and obliterating our kids' playroom to accommodate a monster display. Especially if that...

Sharp, detailed HD images; good colour fidelity; great value for money; USB timeshifting

Light pooling from edge LED system; no BBC iPlayer or 3D playback; some motion judder

Sharp begins its 'big screen, small price' campaign

Unbelievably cheap ; Mostly good picture ; Nice design ; Decent audio

Backlight problems ; Poor online system ; Some operational foibles ; Motion processing requires care

At this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2012), Sharp's stand really stood out.

60in of often good picture quality for less than £1000. Surely there can't be anything not to like, right?

It’s breathtakingly cheap, Attractive design, Many good picture quality attributes

Backlight clouding, limited online service, Standard def (predictably) struggles a touch

Sharp LC-60LE636E

As a tv the picture quality is excellent, on HD superb. The frame is not obtrusive and given the bulk of the speakers the stand off form the wall is not bad for this size at 90mm with the mount I used. Although I consider most of the similar tv's to be...

Bad points are only with the functions. Not many apps on NET tv for the UK, this may be different for other country's. The EPG does not have a page up down or +24 hrs

The picture is excellent. I had been used to a Pioneer Plasma and this Sharp does not dissapoint. The blacks are very good indeed. Used with a sky box the channel change is as normal. Standard definition is absolutely fine unless you sit ridiculously...

A small point - i would have liked the option to stretch the screen and watch hd without the bars top and bottom of the screen. The screen is large however and this is a minor distraction

Price is the obvious best point - the image can be very detailed and realistic if you spend time calibrating to suit your taste ; It feels like you're in a cinema with this screen size

There is is some backlight 'clouding' issues in the bottom left on mine - but edge lit LCD all seem to have similar problems ; Sound quality is average, but i only listen through an AV amp
