Sony KDL-40 EX1

Easy socket access thanks to separate connections box; Picture transmits wirelessly from connections box to display; Tuners for analog and digital terrestrial TV, plus digital cable (the latter also in HDTV); Picture-frame design and a depth of just 5...

Error-prone wireless connection; Limited HDTV picture-quality over the wireless connection; So-so picture quality for side-on viewing; No aspect-ratio options for HD signals; Motion clarity could be higher; Poor sound

Sony Bravia KDL46EX1 LCD television

The Sony Bravia KDL46EX1 is a thin and stylish Full HD LCD television that has decent but not spectacular picture quality, a good range of multimedia ...

Media streamer hides cable clutter, picture frame design is stylish in any environment

No 1080p or 24p streaming, picture quality inferior to other (uglier) TVs

The Sony Bravia KDL46EX1 is a thin, well-designed Full HD LCD television with average image quality and a good wireless media streaming system. It may not be as competent as other models in its price range, but you're paying for some high-class style...

Sony Bravia KDL-40EX1 television review

The Sony KDL-40EX1 is a slim line, 40-inch HD LCD TV that would not look out of place on the wall of any home, because the whole design ethos with the EX1 is that it can double up as a kind of giant, 40-inch digital picture frame as well as the hub for...

Good connectivity, excellent HD picture quality, great built-in sound and base, good separate voice volume, slim design

Seems expensive, 1080p and 24p True Cinema modes not available via Media Receiver (direct monitor input only)

The latest Sony HD LCD TV is a slim and stylish affair that doubles as a 40-inch "art" picture frame. It’s also wireless too and while it looks the part it's quite expensive and has a bit of an Achilles heel in that it cannot wirelessly stream Full HD...

Sony Bravia EX1 (KDL-52EX1) review

The Sony Bravia KDL-52EX1 ultimately comes across as something of an oddball. It offers a futuristic design and some cutting-edge tech, but in some ways feels like it's a generation behind other current TVs. Its price seems inexplicably high too

Bold design ; Wireless AV system seems stable enough ; Good picture quality

One or two processing side effects ; Doesn't use the latest Bravia Engine 3 processing system ; Wireless system can't support 1080p ; Sound quality isn't great ; Painfully expensive

Conclusion There's no doubt that the Sony Bravia KDL-52EX1 makes a bold statement. But Sony is capable of delivering better picture quality, and this fact ultimately makes for an over-priced, rather than premium, TV

Sony Bravia KDL-52EX1 52in LCD TV

It's not cheap, but the Sony Bravia KDL-52EX1 is a stylish 52-incher that also has a wireless HD video transfer system.

The 52EX1's pictures are among the finest we've seen from a 50in-plus LCD TV, the set has plenty of features to slightly help towards justifying its cost, and some people - though not me, to be honest - might well find its flash-Harry design irresistible.

Sony Bravia KDL46EX1

The Sony Bravia KDL46EX1 is a gorgeous looking unit that shows the tremendous promise of wireless HD technology. But we'd hold off on investing till it matures a little.

Stylish ; Wireless system is simple and robust ; Good contrast and natural colours ; Detailed images

No 24p support ; No 1080p transmission ; Some smearing and jaggy problems

Despite being really cool, we're not really convinced of wireless benefits yet — especially when the screen needs to downscale to transmit material across the airwaves. Newer versions of the technology, such as in the upcoming Panasonic Z1, will...
